Yanks game starts 2h earlier tomorrow so should be over by the 3rd or 4th inning of the Jays game.

From there on in, either putting the pressure on to keep up or putting the pressure on to make Sunday meaningless.

There a good chance that game is important, so you want Gausman.

But then if you end up in the wildcard, you don’t have Gausman available for any of the 3 games (except maybe in a desperation relief role in game 3)
There are 3 possible out comes at the end of tomorrow:

Jays up a game: If the Jays win and Yankees lose the Jays clinch the division. The Sunday game is meaningless and I think you start Gausman anyway (but maybe only 65 pitches or something like that) to keep him stretched out.

Tied: If both win or both lose then either a Jays win OR a yankees loss gets the Jays the division/league. In this case I think you pitch Gausman to try and get the win. Your fate is in your own hands and you should go full out. It's fairly likely you end up with the bye and he can pitch game 1 ALDS.

Down by 1: if the Yankees win and the Jays lose tomorrow then the Jays need to win AND have the Yankees lose on Sunday to get the division. In this case I don't pitch Gausman and save him for game 1 wild card, because even if you win you have no control over the Yankees game and are probably ending up in the wild card round. Do another bullpen day - that worked great and everyone gets Monday off before the wild card game anyway.

Yup, agree with this. Right now my nightmare scenario is the Jays down a game on Sunday and trotting out Gausman.

What a fun time of year regardless. This has been such a great unexpected treat

I'm honestly not concerned about a Yanks matchup should it come down to it in the playoffs. The Sox are building momentum though, and will seemingly have some nice confidence. Yanks are going to sweep the White Sox because they're garbage, but it really doesn't mean much because everyone does. Jays just have to make sure they play the final games like it's a game 7, because bypassing the wildcard after such a rollercoaster is worthwhile to take a breather to reset.

I know we weren't really thinking about Seattle but now with their loss today they can't finish 1st in the American League. Winner of AL east takes first in the AL

1. Gausman
2.
3. Berrios
4. Lauer
5. Yesavage

A crap ton of question marks, that's for sure.

Gausman is getting old, Berrios is finishing the season injured, Lauer is one year removed from being in the KBO and Yesavage is a raw rookie.

Do they have anyone except Gausman who can go more than 5 innings? Even this year?

So either Aaron Judge is the greatest baseball player of all time or there is some funny business going on.

If we're in the wild card, I feel like I'd prefer Detroit as an opponent to Boston. Wouldn't want Cleveland, though. That might be a razor thin line. Anyone else's thoughts there?

Pretty sure it's either 1st or 4th for us.

Yup, same. In order of preference I’d go Tigers, Guardians, Sox

Yankees on their way to another win, looking like a wild card spot.

The Jays should go all out and try their hardest to win these 2 remaining games to avoid dropping down to the wild card where they have to win 2 games anyways.

They already clinched home field advantage so that's exactly what it would be.

Do or do not. There is no try.

I think it would be stupid to start gausman tomorrow if it’s a must win. Would need to rely on bullpen, not to mention Toronto doesn’t play Tampa well at all.

If the Jays win tonight, absolutely Gausman starts.

Win tomorrow and you advance an entire round.

Versus

Save him for game 1 of the wildcard where if you win, you still need to win another game
