I love PC gaming you so you don't have to convince me, but the value proposition these days isn't great for them.

Cause you can get PC gamepass if that's your thing but you can still get the big Playstation exclusives on Steam. Best of everything. And as much as 5090 users will try to convince you it's the only way to do it, a PC doesn't have to be absurdly expensive. You can still have a great experience without spending $2000+ on just a GPU.

Yeah, I didn't need to buy a 4090. But I'm glad I did and it's an investment I don't regret.

My first reaction was "Whaaaaat? No waaaaaay it costs that fuc-..." and then the Xbox Series X shop page loaded and showed a price of $729.99 CAD.

Holy sh-tballs, I had no idea it was that much now.

And the cheapest 5070 video card is $800. These prices are apparently the new normal.

I just added Gamepass Ultimate to my Series X after doing PS Plus for the past couple years... DAMN. SO MANY GAMES.

I just wish I could use the PS5 controller with my xbox - i like those ones better

I literally have had a spare Xbox Series X console sitting in my closet since spring of 2023 as I only own one television.

More console price increases coming. Black Friday should be interesting.

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/mi...212246215.html

Microsoft said on Friday it is raising the prices of its Xbox gaming consoles in the U.S. for a second time this year, as the cloud giant's video game division grapples with tariff-induced cost pressures, strong competition and uncertain spending.

The price increases, which Microsoft attributes to "changes in the macroeconomic environment," will apply to its current generation of hardware, with the one-terabyte Series S set to cost around $450 and the high-end Series X around $650 when the changes go into effect on October 3.

The special edition two-terabyte Galaxy Black Series X will now retail for nearly $800.

I wonder if any Xbox Series X hoarder/scalper-types diamond-handed all the consoles they bought during the pandemic, they might be able to make money on them now.

I think a lot of scalpers aim to make a fast buck. They aim to go from fast fluctuations in the market and play on those fluctuations. The capital cost per unit at around $500 to make 50% isn't worth it when there are other options with lower capital cost that can match it, or other options where you can lose your shirt, or hit something at a 5-50x rate of return.

The hoarder/scalper thing is just straight up gambling now. Hoarders are never going to sell. Most scalpers are no longer just aiming to make an incremental amount, most are "scalping" to spin off the extra stuff they luck into that they don't need. Those that are disciplined in being a "reseller" type scalper are a lot more rare now IMO.

Looking at how this area evolved, I envision Walter White's shaking his head and saying, "We don't eat our own supply".

Maybe 12-15 years ago I decided to buy two of every LEGO set I'd want to build, one to open, one to sell when the set retired. At first I made a killing, basically funding my own hobby. Now I have about 40 sets tucked away in storage because I lost interest.

It was a fun experiment. . . Yeah, let's call it an experiment.
