The British put on quite the show for Trump yesterday, giving him the full royal pageantry treatment, while buttering him up with flattery. Pretty pathetic, although flattery seems to be the only way to get anything out of him. I get it. They're still trying to hammer out some kind of trade deal with him and get him to commit to the defence of Ukraine, etc... But man, the whole thing is just so vomit inducing.

Speaking of trade deals-- and this could fit in the Canadian politics thread as well, but I figured I'd put it here-- it was reported yesterday that the U.S., Canada, and Mexico have all started consultations in preparation for the renegotiation of CUSMA, which is expected to begin early in 2026. So I guess we're not getting any sort of bi-lateral deal with the U.S. any time soon in regards to reducing tariffs, etc..

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/can...ment-1.7636356

Quote:
U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra said that evening the U.S. is moving ahead with consultations because it's now "obvious at least at this point in time" that Canada and the U.S. aren't going to reach a bigger agreement.

"The Americans were hopeful that we could negotiate a bigger deal," Hoekstra said during a keynote address at a Canadian International Council event.

"Whether it's on trade, whether it's energy, whether it's automotive, whether it's nuclear defence and all those types of things, we were hoping that we would not just renegotiate CUSMA but that we could take it into being something much bigger," he said.

"It's obvious, at least at this point in time, that that's not going to happen."

Quote:
Asked about Hoekstra's comment about a bigger deal, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Canada proposed an economic and security partnership after the U.S. turned its back on the country with its tariff agenda.

U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs remain in place, including a 50 per cent tax on steel and aluminum imports.

"We've been engaging very actively with the U.S. administration since the beginning," Champagne said. "Canada's always been, I would say, proactive, forthcoming, positive in how we engage."

Prime Minister Mark Carney originally said he was seeking a new security and economic agreement with the U.S., but this month said the government is now in talks over a series of smaller deals to help industries hit hard by Trump's tariffs.

Also, Carney is headed to Mexico this week to meet with Sheinbaum.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/car...usma-1.7636623

Quote:
Prime Minister Mark Carney heads to Mexico Thursday with two separate, but related, goals.

The first is to find ways to work with Mexico to preserve North America-wide free trade, or at least as much of it as can be saved from the most protectionist U.S. administration in a century.

The second is to develop a bilateral trading relationship with Mexico that operates independently of the whims of the White House, and can survive whatever fate lies in store for the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) when its renegotiation finally happens.

The projection is almost unbelievable. The new narrative seems to be that the left are the fascists and MAGA is defending the US from fascism...
Which would make them antifa? I can't keep up with the stupidity anymore.

This is a depressing timeline and the renegotiation of CUSMA next year is probably going to make things worse. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? I hate to sound defeatist but I don't see any way a massive war is avoided in the next 5 years.

Behind all the noise and infighting in the US, the dollar has lost 11% of its value so far this year. BRICS is expanding and is tightening the noose of global economic influence around the USAs neck.

Gen Z doesn't talk like this. Gen Z doesn’t format texts like this.

No one refers to their car as a vehicle unless, maybe, the person is law enforcement. Or use words like interrogation and drop point. No one says squad car. He’d would probably say he just saw a cop.

Why would he tell the person he’s supposedly in a relationship with that his dad is hard core MAGA? The person would already know this. A 22 year old also wouldn’t refer to his parent as “my old man.” That’s older generation lingo.

The step by step detail that conveniently fits the MAGA narrative is stupid. No one would write out a detailed confession timeline about the events. Like leaving the gun in the bushes and changing outfits and not having time to take the gun with him and wrapping it in a towel. About leaving prints or wondering if there’s a serial number on the gun. When he talks about the engravings, he says it’s mostly a big meme. Young people don’t talk like this. Nobody really texts like this. It was either written by an older person at the DOJ or AI. Or maybe by Eric Trump.

The prosecutor released this to the press and public. But will the prosecutor use it in court? Maybe courts don’t matter anymore.

It’s so ridiculous, but then MAGA are the dumbest people in the planet and Donald Trump is a pedophile.

Man, reading this thread, the Charlie Kirk appreciation thread and really, all of The Fonz's posts, it really is just a brutal time to be even remotely intelligent.

To say this is going to be a black mark in human history is an understatement.

I think there are a couple of things that could be considered the light at the end of the tunnel:
1) Many people that voted for Trump are not MAGAts but uninformed and easily swayed by propaganda. Many of them are starting to realize negative consequences from Trump's policies and may become better informed. I think the Bernie video that was posted was a great example of that. The fascists and run of the mill racists will still vote MAGA but I don't think that's even the majority of Trump voters.
2) Trump will die. It may be after he is through being President/King (if ever) but there is nobody else in the MAGA movement with the same cult of personality over the MAGAts as Trump.

The pendulum will swing back, let's just hope that the damage done in the meantime isn't permanent.

Point 1 explains the race to impose their will over corporate media. A corporate media has been all too happy to comply at every turn.

I knew the corporate class would be pretty weak but I did not expect this level of spinelessness, and outright complicity. In retrospect knowing who owns these orgs it really shouldn't have been.

The frogs also don't realize the 2nd amendment wasn't written so you could conceal carry a Glock - it was enshrined so citizenry might be armed and therefore able to overthrow a tyranical government that ignores the constitution.

The American system is designed to keep people stupid and poor. Why does an undergrad in the US cost $100,000+? Need uninformed voters and you need poor men to join the military.

Yup. And to add, the biggest divide has always been the top vs the bottom, but those at the top have been able to convince the citizens that it's the right vs the left to ensure they fight each other instead of uniting together at the bottom to fight the top. It's a masterful job done by those at the top to successful fool so many people. You can even see it's worked on many on here.

Thinking more about it, most of them dont even realize they are the frogs. They vote like theyre the people who own the pot, the water and all the frogs.

More of this stuff please.

Macron/wife sued Candace Owens for remarks about his wife being born male. They will provide scientific and photographic evidence in defence.

No more "taking the higher road" time to stand up to these jerks.

I'm not convinced. I mean look here in Canada, or around the world. PP & Smith have no shortage of crazed followers who have no problem cutting off their noses to spite their faces. I think we're past the point of no return on most of the MAGAts until everything comes crashing down. It'll get worse before it gets better imo.

We can throw in the Alberta thread as well. It’s just been a non-stop avalanche of insane bulls*** ever since Trump first rode down that escalator in 2015. We’re at peak stupidity right now as a species.

Personally I try my best to unplug from it as much as I can just to keep myself sane and keep my anxiety levels in check. I’ll check the latest headlines in the morning on CBC/AP News, etc.. while I’m having coffee, and check out the political threads here on CP just to stay informed. But after I’m done that I just tune it out for the rest of the day and try not to dwell on negativity or worry about what I can’t control. I’ve also filtered out my social media so that if I do go on my phone I’m mostly getting stuff in my feed that makes me happy like movies, music, nature, travelling, etc.. It helps.

Depends on who wins, as they shall be the authors of history.

"When you have a network and you have evening shows and all they do is hit Trump, that’s all they do — if you go back, I guess they haven’t had a conservative one in years, or something — when you go back and take a look, all they do is hit Trump. They’re licensed. They’re not allowed to do that.”
