A lot of talk for a dead podcaster. The most interesting or note worthy thing about him is how he died.

Yeah, that part just doesn't add up. I feel like unless you bought into the carefully curated and misrepresented content peddled to the Jesus freaks, you'd know there's nothing to appreciate. Doubling down on him while also being a self proclaimed atheist is truly mind bottling.
I keep expecting some kind of revelatory post in this thread that reveals this to be elaborate and ill-conceived performance art.

And now Jimmy Kimmel is cancelled, or at least indefinitely suspended.
The fallout of all this sucks.

Huh. So Charlie says he says to see Trump beheaded and then gets clipped. Coincidence?

Kimmel should've been cancelled a long time ago. He's always pandering for applauses. His monologues are just political drivel for the past 10 years. It's so predictable and cliche. Sucks that politics cans him because he simply sucks as a comedian these days (or his writers are mediocre).

Why should that get him cancelled?

Why should being unfunny get a comedian fired?
I don't necessarily agree with the above statement in regards to Kimmel, but the reasons why seem pretty straight forward there in that opinion.

I'm not sure it's astounding at all. The internet is fast by nature.

There is no doubt that the roots of what is happening today were laid years ago. This is not some bizarre aberration, but a direct result of Western colonialism and the Enlightenment ideals that spawned it.
Please read the essay.

Wrong. Kimmel is smart and funny and angry. We need people to criticize the US descent into facism.

It's a fascist country with a government that isn't leaving office. The right didn't mean they don't want cancel culture, they meant that they want to control cancel culture.

This is so ****ing far beside the point, it's ridiculous. Do you not see what is happening in the US right in front of your ****ing eyes, man? Like ****.

Someone suggested the documentary “Bad Faith.” I watched it today; it’s another thing that explains a lot.
I ended up getting Klein’s book after reading that essay.

You've described the literal job of an entertainer.

It sounds to me like you just didn't like that he was talking politics. This is late-night TV, not HBO. The quality of these shows has always been dependent on the guests, and the monologues are meant to be a watered down version of stand-up to warm the crowd for the rest of the show. If you're confused on how this whole thing works, try watching The Larry Sanders Show. It's HBO.
Jimmy Kimmel is as intelligent, funny, and engaging as any other late-night host in the history of the genre. I've never quite understood the veneration these people recieve, but I also didn't grow up in an era where these shows held the prestige they did. They were once the launching pad of every great comedian we know today, and they were the common person's connection to the personal side of the celebrity's they admired.
If anything, the networks have been looking for an excuse to drop the late-show format altogether, as only geriatrics and the insomnia stricken give them any ratings whatsoever. Even so, that it finally happened after referencing a Nazi being assassinated shouldn't be brushed aside. Colbert, Kimmel, and South Park are being censored entirely because they spoke ill of Fat Fuhrer's taint lickers.

I got it from the start. But night after night poking Trump in the same tired jokes was too much. I'm not a Trump fan to put it out there. He's ruining the states at an alarming rate, but these "jokes" were so forced and they just weren't funny when done night after night. While I don't watch South Park anymore, it's far far more creative than what these late night guys do. It's a shame if it ever gets cancelled. They poke at everything in a super creative way. I can't shame that at all.

Late night hosts making fun of the president -- every president -- in their opening monologues night after night has been a thing for at least as long as I have been old enough to watch those shows. This isn't anything new. The only thing that's changed is that the current president is far too thin-skinned to take a joke.
