I have found the easiest/ most commonly way he is recognized is by describing the fat baby JD Vance meme and the pinch faced meme that accompanies it. He was the pinched face meme guy seems to land fairly frequently.

I don't hate politics in general, but I definitely hate current politics at every level of government, locally and internationally.

There's zero nuance in politics anymore. Perspectives have to be extreme. Words get twisted. You can't seem to agree with one thing a politician does, if they've done something you don't agree with.

Politics shouldn't be a team sport but it is for too many people. Can't switch party allegiances or they'll look dumb or have wasted your time.

I try to keep up with what's going on politically, but I definitely hate it. A lot of time I try to ignore it because it's better for my sanity to focus on things I have control over and not get worked up over things I don't.

Other than voting, how do you engage in current politics if you have no desire to run for office, volunteer, argue online, etc.?

He was pro 2nd amendment and protecting those rights. He advocated different safety measures in order to prevent school shootings, such as
-armed security guards in schools, as you see at sporting events, banks, airports
-security upgrades to schools such as reinforced doors, bulletproof glass, and secure entry points
-arming school staff who are trained & willing, as a last line of defense

Can disagree with his solution to preventing school shootings all you want. But to repeat any iteration of "happy to see children put to death" is just vilifying him in your own mind in order to reconcile being happy that's dead.

In the quote where he said "it's worth it" + "having an armed citizenry comes with a price", he also said "driving comes with a price - 50,000 people die on the road every year - that's a price. But we have decided that the benefit of driving - speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services - is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road every year".

It'd be baseless and inflammatory to say Kirk is happy to see children killed by drunk drivers.

I was under the impression that not expressing profound sadness over a death meant someone was celebrating it?

When people say they hate politics, they mean they hate online political discourse. Which is a fair criticism, as it’s typically just people snarking and denouncing one another.

It’s also pretty reasonable to not want that kind of toxic behaviour to seep into forums where people talk about their leisure activities. As more online forums become consumed by culture wars, it drives out the normies and leaves social media entirely to the miserable and disaffected.
