Was able to go to the game today with friends and family. Good to see a win and kids loved running the bases after!

4 up with 13 to play and the tiebreaker should be enough for the division. The Yankees have a ridiculous easy schedule though and wouldn’t be surprised if they went 11-2.

Sounds like a couple things could be at play. First, yes a year of eligibility burned to do the player a favour.
But, that is something you do when the team is playing out the string in September, not battling for the AL lead, as having him come in changes the rotation and other things that have worked so far this season.
So, is a starter, now since the deadline, dealing with something more then letting on?
Bassit and Berrios especially, which may affect post season availability. That is the only way (well any pitcher being injured) he could play in the playoffs.
|
If he becomes eligible for the post-season as an injury replacement would the injured player be forced to miss the playoffs completely or would it be a temporary replacement?

A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.)

A club may request permission from the Commissioner's Office to replace a player who is injured during the course of a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round, if there is one.

You'd want to be pretty sure I think of adding him - not sure if you could do it for the type of injury guys normally play through.

Jays need a split in Tampa. The Yanks have a guaranteed sweep against the twins coming up. Not even hyperbole. Their record against the Twins is insane over the last 25 years. So a split would keep a 3 game buffer with under 10 to go. You then start to feel pretty good about things. But if the Rays do Rays things. Which they probably will because we can't have nice things. It will get very interesting very quickly.

IKF in an interview the other day was talking about Bo and says hopefully they can go on a long run so he can return..... hopefully not the case and we can get him back for at least the start of the playoffs.

So with Yesavage being called up to pitch today, I guess Borucki will be sent back down to Buffalo or DFA'd as the corresponding move??

I think he’d need to be DFA’d as he doesn’t have options.

It isn't a problem (or at least not a new problem...) if he can't come back for the next round because he's having surgery anyway. If that's the case it's basically a non-issue - they have multiple guys in that situation already.

after a healthy cohort of the 35,367 fans booed a failed eight-inning first base pickoff attempt by orioles’ reliever shawn dubin on the jays’ myles straw, roberts and his play-by-play colleague kevin brown opined on the fan reaction.
Brown said it’s “silly” that the move would draw a negative reaction and highlighted that the pickoff is now part of baseball’s disengagement rules meant to speed the game up, which only allow pitchers to step off the rubber twice per plate appearance.
“it’s like booing when a pitcher throws a ball,” brown remarked to his colleague, in a clip shared by former sportsnet host sid seixeiro.
“i gotta be real, real careful what i say,” roberts replied, “but sometimes we had some major questions about the baseball iq of some canadians here and there.
“at times it felt like maybe they knew a little bit more about hockey than baseball.”
after brown advised him to “shut that down now” and they both shared a collegial laugh, roberts asked: “we’re not on the air in canada, are we?”
“there’s this thing called the internet,” brown reminded him.
“oh, that’s right,” roberts said as they returned to the game at hand, which ended in a 6-1 jays’ win over american league east basement-dwelling baltimore.

Booing pickoff attempts is stupid, but fans of all teams do it, so it certainly isn't Canada specific.

I agree with him. Take this place for instance. Some of you think Berrios is good...
I love you all, I'm sorry.

Garcia was one of the players Shi Davidi used along with Sandlin (if he's still not ready to go) as examples of how they could get Yesavage on the playoff roster when they talked about about the possibility of bringing him up on Sportsnet on Thursday or Friday.

The Expos used to play an animated chicken, with clucking sound effects, every time the opposing pitcher threw over to first encouraging fans to boo.

The real idiocy on this board is the people who think the Canucks are good.

I think maybe it made sense if guys were slowing the game down with 5 weak throws to 1st in a row. With the rule that you get 2 failed attempts per batter max or the runner gets a free base I think the incentive is already there to keep things moving along sufficiently.

According to Arden Zwelling, Bichette is getting a 2nd opinion.
That doesn't sound good.
