Seems weird to do that now - he wasn't on the 40 man at the beginning of the month so he's only eligible for the postseason as an injury replacement. I'd have thought if they were going to do it they'd have put him on the 40 man then.

Putting him on the 40 man now means they have to keep him there this winter (which costs flexibility eg for Rule 5 draft) and might end up costing him an option year depending on how it plays out.

If they truly believe he makes the bullpen better in the playoffs you go for it, but this has a real cost.

I dont like losing more depth and having him on 40 man over winter. They must think its good for development and team

Yesavage is getting tomorrow’s start. It was previously assumed to be Berrios. Interesting

I like the move
He has a unique delivery and could be very effective particularly as teams don’t have a good book on him
Could be an X factor

Yeah a bit puzzling to me as per Bizzaros post.

Sounds like a couple things could be at play. First, yes a year of eligibility burned to do the player a favour.

But, that is something you do when the team is playing out the string in September, not battling for the AL lead, as having him come in changes the rotation and other things that have worked so far this season.

So, is a starter, now since the deadline, dealing with something more then letting on?

Bassit and Berrios especially, which may affect post season availability. That is the only way (well any pitcher being injured) he could play in the playoffs.

I mean. It'd be nice for the Jays to get a couple hits in the first 5 innings once in a while. Maybe even a run or two...

I like how varsho has had two at bats in this game and buck told the exact same story about talking to varsho about yesterday's game, both times, almost word for word.

No kidding. It landed 4 feet from the RF who was jogging over there the whole time the ball was in the air. The CF almost got it.

Did I miss something? Why did Baltimore pull their starter?

Bullpen game. Suarez was on a pitch count.

His level of analysis at this point:
- complain about the newfangled ways that baseball works
- find a single interesting story and beat it to death
- read the stats as they are showing on the screen that we are currently seeing

Being old school isn’t necessarily a problem. It would be quite interesting for him to explain why things have changed and some of the benefits/risks to the change. Talk about how certain players have embraced the changes and others who have been more resistant and why. That’s quality analysis IMO.

Buck hates the one knee catching but then praises Kirk for playing as much as he is…guess why he is able to play as much as he is? Because he is using the one knee stance whenever he can. I saw an interview with a catcher about the impact of catching that way and he said it makes a massive difference in how his body feels the next day.

Buck is the voice of baseball for me. I grew up listening to him and it feels like and his voice is like a warm hug but the quality of the colour commentary is so much worse than it was with Siddall or Joseph.

Watching baseball with your grandpa who always complains about how the game isn’t as good as it used to be gets a bit old after a while.

Beauty. George is having a day. Every time you think he might be regressing, he breaks out of it.

Upon his return, we are either going to get used to watching Santander in the outfield or as a pinch hitter. Don’t mess with the OP.

ETA - looks like Santander is having a rough day at the plate with two Ks. They might take their time in calling him up.

I look forward to watching left handed specialist Borucki walk at least one of the lefties that he’s brought in to face.

I can’t attribute that one to a bad route - it’s so tough to find a route to a line drive gapper.
