I don’t follow Kirk. TBH I had to google who he was. Whether you like what he said or not you can’t murder people for debating. If you do it will stifle debate. Which is the foundation of democracy.
Pretty sad statement of where North American society’s are headed. Divided, angry and closed minded. On both sides. Not a good recipe.
I'm not approving of the murder of Charlie Kirk, but let's be clear.
What Charlie was "Debating" for, was the antithesis of democracy.
He actively preached that certain groups should be put to death (Gays, as per the bible), and that other groups (LGBTQ people) should have their rights stripped from them. Also, he said some pretty racist stuff.
Debate is important for a healthy functioning democracy, that is 100% true.
Charlie Kirk DID NOT DEBATE, he spewed hate speech, and advocated for, if not the direct application of, then the acceptance of violence.
Debate and democracy are about coming to an agreement about how reach the most beneficial outcomes.
Charlie Kirk openly advocated for positions meant solely to harm people he didn't approve of. Nothing he did was done in good faith, and it wasn't done in the spirit of true debate or democracy.
Someone's who's starting position is "Group XXX does not have the right to exist" is not a person who should be categorized as a "Debater". That is a hate monger.

Charlie Kirk was not a debater, he was a propagandist. He relied on lies and misinformation for his arguments, which is the antithesis of real debate. I wonder if any of the pearl clutchers here would be having the same reaction if it was someone like David Duke who was murdered, because that's who Kirk was. He just put a much more charismatic spin on the racism and bigotry

The Utah press conference is hideous. Kash making it sound like the FBI solved the crime.
And Utah governor insisting Kirk was a great guy who didn’t spew hate. This is dystopia.
• The suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, reached out to a family friend, who then contacted authorities, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said. Robinson spoke negatively of Kirk before the shooting, a family member told investigators, the governor said.
Investigators discovered a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel, and inscriptions — including one that read “Hey fascist! Catch!” — were engraved on casings found with the rifle, officials said.
Trying to rebrand Kirk's particularly awful rhetoric as somehow something other than political speech is silly. A person can be a debater and a propagandist at the same time. You can contort the meaning of words by saying "this isn't speech" but it's extremely transparent.

Admit it. You chuckled.

The messages included “Hey fascist! Catch!", “O bella ciao, bella ciao" — a reference to the iconic World War II-era Italian anti-fascist song — and “If you read this you are gay lmao".
Even murders are toilet humor memes

Woody Guthrie wrote on his guitar -“this machine kills fascists.”
Musician Rob Baker of the group The Tragically Hip has "This Machine Kills Fascists" on his acoustic guitar in the official video for Bobcaygeon.
Upon The White Stripes suing the Donald Trump 2024 presidential campaign for copyright infringement, front-man Jack White captioned an Instagram post about the lawsuit "This machine sues fascists.“

Eh, still not even the worst way someone can no longer be alive. Like if he'd gone on vacation, contracted some deadly disease and then went around infecting a few dozen people before dying of it, you could reasonably say "It would have been better if he'd been shot".

It still blows my mind how Kash Patel is the head of the FBI. The guy is so unqualified for the job, and you can tell he knows it.
This totally has the vibe of one those old Disney kids movies, where a kid swaps bodies with an adult and the kid is faking it till he makes it in the adult body and pretending like he knows what the eff is going on. I guess the silver lining is, in those movies, by the end, he somehow lucks into solving things using his kid perspective that us adults failed to see, and us plebs are none the wiser. Too bad real life isn't a Disney movie eh?

I was thinking of maybe taking over the Superdome and repurposing it as the Semantics Dome, since the Saints don't seem to be using it for anything worthwhile at the moment.

That is such a perfect description. He looks terrified to be in the role. I’ve never seen someone in charge of such an important entity and look so cowardly and shakable. I feel like anyone could bully him by making him flinch.
The thousand yard stare and what I assume is quite a lot of cocaine are not helping him project an aura of confidence, that's for sure.

The Republican key on this. This is their ground game 24/7. Be on radio hours everyday be on podcasts hours everyday. Go your university campuses and debate, speakers corner everyday.
Every election people talk about converting independent voters or unhappy voters on the other side. Kirk ignored that and realized there were millions of unregistered voters on university campuses, let's go meet them.
You seen all the headlines in this thread. Here is a normal session a few days ago a UCSD
I just wish the general population ignored these people. Sure they’re presenting the other side of the coin with their arguments, but once they get popular and they get their following they just seem to pander to that group and become obnoxious. It becomes their professional calling to troll the other side. Does anyone actually switch to the other side in all this? I just don’t see it. They’re all rally’s to get their side riled up. It’s happening more in Canada too. I do hope people can look at this nonsense and ignore those spewing rhetoric in politics. I’m starting to like Mark Carney more now despite the liberal title as he hasn’t pointed fingers and become an identity politician. I hope he keeps it that way.
I keep seeing this - is there a video on where he said this?
I wasn't a Charlie Kirk follower and have only gone down the rabbit hole watching his videos since his assassination.
“Wasn’t”? Meaning you are now…
In all seriousness, people are just referring to him citing Leviticus 20:13 during his “debates”.
Leviticus 20:13: If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Not gonna go look for a video, but this is from his Wikipedia page:
On June 8, 2024, while criticizing YouTuber Ms. Rachel for quoting Leviticus 19:18 ("Love your neighbor as yourself"), Kirk responded by citing Leviticus 20:13 ("If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them"), which he described as "God's perfect law when it comes to sexual matters".
So yeah, guy straight up said gay men should be put to death.

Turning Point USA is a content machine backed by a billionaire designed to turn kids into white christian nationalists (i.e. christo-fascist nazis). Kirk was the head of that org.
Trying to paint them as anything else is dishonest at best.
Looking like Kirk might have radicalized his own shooter.
