Did you know that Kirk means church?

His name was literally Charlie Church.

I think it's horrible, no kids should lose their father like that, and I don't want to see that happen to anyone. There's so much theatre from people who don't give a damn when kids are murdered, or didn't care when the Minnesota politicians were shot, but now are very concerned about leftist violence.

I talked with one person I know, and it went poorly. They had a post that said pray for Charlie Kirk.

They were just arguing that he was killed for having an opinion. I stated it's horrible that he died and no kids should lose their father, but that Kirk was a-ok with that happening to other people, and made comments stating as much right after a school shooting a couple years ago. I said he also was a little more than a guy with some opinions, he had influence. He wouldn't have prayed for anyone.

The response I got was, "well he was executed for having an opinion, I guess you should be happy he's dead."

I'm already burnt out on this.
Maybe just.. leave it be?

We dont have to give our input on everything. Sometimes the most tactful move (as well as energy saving), if you know that people affected won't like your honest opinion, is to withold it.

Underrated move. Many disregard it as an option.

Problem with the internet is every one compulsively inserting their opinions on practically everything.

Maybe those acquaintances aren't seeing hypocrisy in only sounding off now, maybe they're missing some information or alternative perspective that you deem pertinent. But its not always our job to make them understand.

And forcing the matter is typically met with resistance.

If you're burnt out maybe it's about picking your battles and realizing when its futile.

That's not really a tough task, religious people are incredibly stupid, not really great at critical thinking and already quite gullible. Apparently all you need to get their ear is a white complexion, a big blocky head and to speak loudly/confidently no matter what kind of lies are coming out of your mouth. Oh, don't forget to say all kinds of homophobic and racist crap that the MAGA mooshbrains believe deep down inside.

And they always bring up abortion. I posted about some of Kirk’s beliefs, and I got “Oh someone deserved to be murdered because their views on abortion are different than yours?”

I never said anything about abortion. Nothing. I’m often asked if guilt over having an abortion has made me do bitter towards Trump. What? I’ve never had one, these people don’t know me. They’re just going for what they think is the jugular.

There is something very comforting and satisfying about the people in this thread.

Isaac Newton – deeply Christian, even wrote more on theology than physics.

But according to a guy in the internet, named Engine09, says “religious people are incredibly stupid”

But you are the true edge lord.

Unfortunately, this is the best thing that could have happened to Shapiro. He will 100% be in front every camera that he can get in front of, blaming the progressive left for the fact he can no longer speak freely, despite the fact we don't know who the shooter was or what their motivations were.

Interestingly enough, the anti-Semitic portion of MAGA seems to think Shapiro may have ordered the hit on Kirk.

Did someone just seriously compare religious belief from the 1600's to current times?

Not like society, culture or science could have evolved in that time at all eh?

He was a devout Christian but believed orthodox religion was perverted and corrupt and was labelled a heretic but good effort I guess.

If you're religious, you're only making his point for him by suggesting Issac Newton was 'deeply Christian'. Newton's beliefs more often brand him something of a heretic amongst other Christians.

[Newton's] writings show extensive knowledge of early Church texts and reveal that he sided with Arius, who rejected the conventional view of the Trinity and was the losing party in the conflict with Athanasius over the Creed. Newton "recognized Christ as a divine mediator between God and man, who was subordinate to the Father who created him." He was especially interested in prophecy, but for him, "the great apostasy was trinitarianism."

Worshipping Jesus Christ as God was, in Newton's eyes, idolatry, an act he believed to be the fundamental sin.

You had to go back over 300 years to find the last truly smart "religious" person. Is there perhaps a more recent example? I wonder how many Nobel laureates are deeply religious now? I wonder how many people would be labeled a heretic and burned at the stake for being an atheist in Newton's time? He was born the same year Galileo died in exile for simply stating that the earth went around the sun, making him a heretic in the church's eye.

Context matters.

And. This is also way, way, way off topic.

Probably to plant false evidence in the form of a rifle with 'trans4lyfe' and 'down with trump' written on it.

Here we go, the Reddit mods are in full attack mode.

You are the minority, you are in the wrong. You feel like you’re not because you have surrounded yourselves in an echo chamber.

I am not religious, I do not hate anybody for any choices they make that affects their lives. I do not care if somebody has a different opinion than myself, and when they do, I do not wish any violence on them.

You are openly celebrating the assassination of another person, because you disagree with what he thought.

The irony is, it’s the same mentality you claim to despise when “the other side” does it. They just dress it up as righteous.

This straw man keeps coming up, time and time again. No one is killing anyone over thoughts. It's the sharing of those thoughts, the public manipulation of others to make his views become policy that then acts upon those who HE openly disapproves of and preaches violence upon. He is, by any rational reasoning, a bad person. Bad people bully, and look down upon, and take actions to repress and harm others. That's what he did. I don't care how holy a Christian he pretends to be, if you have Christian values, then he does not in any way represent them.

So I ask you, what level of harm to another person or groups of people is acceptable? Most people would say killing Hitler or Pol Pot is acceptable to stop the harm they wrought no others. Did Charlie approach this? No. But he's certainly on the scale, because we have his words and advocacy to look back on. Someone *speculation* thought he had crossed that line, and took action, in the way Charlie has advocated guns be used for.

So your line may be a lot closer to Hitler than Charlie, but it's not unreasonable for people to hold positions along that spectrum, particularly if they are victims of his harm.

The lesson her is as always, don't preach hatred. Charlie found himself superior to others, and used his celebrity status to bring people to his side to be evil to other humans for no reason other than they are different than him. I choose to side with the bullied, and conclude the world is better off without people acting like he did. I'd rather he opened his eyes and change than die, but that clearly wasn't happening given his engagement and lack of change. So if he continued to exist, he'd continue to do evil harm to others. You seem to accept this. Others, do not. That doesn't make you morally superior. It just means you are OK with bullies.
