I think Kirk had a right to say all of the stuff he was saying. I think the guy who shot him should go to prison. That doesn't mean that I have to be sad he's not around anymore.

Yeah, that's some pretty specific language and regardless of who did this or why, Trump will use this - lots saying the usual about martial law, etc.
Feeling a bit 'The Purge' in the US the last couple of days.

This is 100% accurate.
There is no hope left for America, or at least not any time soon.

I will not defend a persons "right" to do these sorts of things. Fortunately in Canada, a "resilient democracy", we do have some laws that rightfully limit speech. Making up statements like what you said doesn't mean anything, you just think that's the truth because you heard it somewhere else. It doesn't make it the truth. Democracy in no way requires unlimited free speech. In fact, we see what happens when you allow that.
|
I fully believe in what I said and furthermore believe those principles will make a democracy more resilient.
I quite frankly never paid attention to Charlie Kirk and probably would disagree with most things he said. Even if it is true he is calling for the "Christofacisim to take over the country, while fomenting hatred and cheering on violence to achieve those goals, and giving your followers the comradarie to do it", he should be able to say those things without the fear of getting murdered.

I will defend someone's right to have bad opinions.
I will never defend someone's right to spread misinformation and lies using big media platforms to convert impressionable people in the direction of hatred, bigotry, et al.
This shooter may very well have heroically changed a course of history where Charlie Kirk was the Fuhrer in charge of WWIII..
Quite frankly if liars in positions of power and influence had the fear of getting murdered, they might just be honest.
A democracy should be built on honesty and transparency. Period.

Well, Kirk did think all gay people should be murdered. Is that an opinion?
And the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a huge mistake? It’s not merely an opinion when you’ve got Project 2025 in progress.

Reminder: Kirk stated that gun deaths were worth it in order to have their right to bear arms under the 2nd amendment.

Elon might just be mad about losing his richest ###### in the world title today to Larry Ellison.

That’s hilarious.
Ellison also set the record for the largest residential real estate deal in Florida.
Guess I won’t see him buying his own groceries.

Well, I disagree, and I'm thankful that Canada allows for some limits and don't think there is any evidence to show it makes us less of a democracy.

Weird. They weren’t at all outraged about the State Rep from Minnesota and her husband who were murdered by MAGA not long ago. They don’t show this level of outrage when children are slaughtered in schools. But when a fellow Nazi is gunned down it’s time to burn it all down.

Hes not mainstream mostly on youtube and social media. Goes around colleges debating students in Speakers Forum type venues.
He was integral to Trump's victory by going college to college across the country getting young male college students to register to vote.

If so, he should probably avoid actionable libel against other rich people who could take a decent chunk out of him if they wanted to...

People have to be responsible for fortifying their own minds. You can’t babysit the world. People are stupid, and the trend for ‘thinking’ is downward.
In a post fact world, everything goes and people generally tend to prefer the crazier stuff: ancient aliens, baby eaters, no moon landing, conspiracies everywhere.
