California voters would be so far right compared to most Canadians, that this isn't quite the match made in heaven that a lot of us seem to think.

California can be it's own nation. It doesn't need (and we shouldn't want it) to join Canada.

Not to mention, California's got some significant economic issues to contend with as well if separation is on their menu.

It's a pipe dream of course but I don't know why California would want to join Canada anyway. Considering their size and economy they'd be better off flying solo.
Again impossible unless some of the more bloodthirsty types get the civil war they keep trying to predict. What I would like to see is the state find ways to use their economic leverage against the federal government. California's economy and taxes prop up a large part of the federal government and any disruption to their contribution could be disastrous for Washington.

Not American-related (sorry), but anyone watching what's happening in Nepal right now? The people have risen up in a bloody revolution/uprising and the government has fled the country

California’s economy is interesting. It’s obviously been dominant for decades, but AI is bringing big changes to the economics of the entertainment industry and climate change is already causing problems for agriculture. Not to mention the ongoing fire problems. The tech industry is pretty fickle as well and could pull out if it stops being advantageous to be there.

I spent 4 days in Kathmandu this spring, absolutely loved it but that place is crazy as is, cannot imagine tryig to get around there during a riot. The people have more balls than Americans though, Trump should absolutely be run out of the country and forced to hide until he rots away and dies a miserable death.

I've spent a fair amount of time in a lot of states and provinces, and it's kind of the same everywhere. Urban areas and college towns are fairly liberal. Suburbs are mixed and both the liberals and conservatives are a little more moderate. Once you get out of the suburbs, it's full on MAGA/whatever the Canadian equivalent is.
I've seen it cities in VA/NC/SC/GA/CA/AL/OH/PA/MD/NY/AB/BC. You to any city in the US whether it is red or blue around election time, and the cities will have 90/10 Democrat vs Republican signs up. As you get out to the suburbs it gets more 50/50, with some suburbs 60/40 one way and some the other, and you realize you've left the suburban areas when there starts to be giant "Thanks Trump" "I love Trump" mixed in with the Jesus billboards and other crazy crap.
The states that have the largest split rural/urban are the reddest, and the states that have the largest split the other way are the bluest. The American system gives out-sized power to the rural population, and Trump and some other republicans have figured out how to exploit that.
It sucks because now we have the rural population voting and cheering for actions in the cities that they don't live in and rarely visit, while the people in the cities pay the consequences. That's not just limited to the current actions either.
It makes it hard for one state to separate though because they just have the same divisive internal problems.

Maybe an unpopular opinion: I’m sure they’re not serious but I want no part of any U.S. state. Not even California, although it’s tempting. You folks are overlooking the $h1t that would happen. We’d be taking on huge problems we don’t need.

Much like most separatist talk I take everything with a gigantic grain of salt and then proceed to make jokes to kind of shine the light on problems.
For instance, realistically? California wouldnt be 'joining Canada' so much as it would leave the USA and maybe absorb Canada, if they felt like it. Its a huge economy.
But as you said, and was said before, there are a lot of problems there including where California and Canada slot in on the Political Spectrum, amongst a veritable cornucopia of other problems and issues.
People tend to have this idyllic dream of the glorious Liberal Valhalla that is California, I dont know where they got the idea that California is some sort of Elysian Field or whatever but it certainly wasn't from facts or visiting the place.
Its not even a pipe dream so much as maybe a shrooms or ludes induced hallucination.
They wouldnt want it. We wouldnt want it. So...? Yeah.

Lol. People hate being ruled from Ottawa but what would likely happen here is that we would instead be ruled from San Francisco. Can't see that going well for us.

Yes, Sacramento is the state capital of california. But the elites dont stay and live there. Besides, that would remain the capital of California and they could choose another "federal" capital if they so pleased.
But the power is in San Fran.

US DOJ actually discussed a gun ban. But only for trans people.

But Justice Department leadership is seriously considering whether it can use its rulemaking authority to follow on to Trump’s determination to bar military service by transgender people and declare that people who are transgender are mentally ill and can lose their Second Amendment rights to possess firearms, according to one Justice official.

Surprisingly, actually getting a lot of pushback from the right. Although as much as I love guns, It's depressing to think this would get more pushback than the fact that Republicans all support pedophile rapists.
Disarming specific groups you don't like so they can't defend themselves later when you round them up? Straight out of the Nazi playbook, systematic disarmament preceded Kristallnacht, when Jews were rendered defenseless during mass raids, property destruction, and deportations.

Well, and as they say in the video, chances are it would result in more blue states breaking away.
California would likely form a new nation with Oregon and Washington, effectively ripping the west coast off of America.
The bigger question mark would be what would happen with those NE blue states like New York? If California breaks away then I highly doubt they would want to stay in the US. I would bet that they decide to break away from the US and they might be interested in joining Canada just because they would not be able to join California.
And then if NY splits off, what happens with the states that are northeast of NY? You could probably have VT, MA, NH, CT, RI, and Maine thinking hard about moving with NY.
What is scary is how right wing the remainder of the US would be...

Jesus, from that link:
From January 2013 to the present, of the more than 5,700 mass shootings in America (defined as four or more victims shot and killed)...
That is in 4,634 days, assuming they are keeping their mass shooting data up-to-date.
