What a strange situation. I can not believe these parents.

I have a 11-month old son and I will also raise him to be strong, independent and know how to stand up for himself. But not to be a coward. This 4 year old will get his some day. He has no problem expressing his strength against younger weaker opponents but I will bet he is and will be quite the coward when faced against a tougher opponent.

On a some what related note. I like the idea of spraying down the other child with a hose/super soaker.

A while back I was out washing my truck in the front yard when one of the neighbours kids walks by at lunch on his way to school. His parents did not have quite the same mentality as your brother's neighbours but they were really flakey when it came to discipline. Anyhow, as I was washing my truck this kid decides it is a good idea to throw mud on the truck. Not a big deal I washed it off but he persists. I told him he should hed to school but he insists on throwing mud on my car. So I took the hose and soaked him down and I mean soaked him down. He could hardly walk home with the amount of water drenching his clothes.

Not two minutes later his dad comes driving up to the house, jumps out of his car and comes screaming up to me. He was not too happy in the least. I calmly stood up to him and explained what happened. He had the nerve to tell me that I had no right to do what I did. He told me to mind my own business when I asked if he would discipline his son.

I will never understand some people...

When we lived in Calgary, the neighbours across the street from us believed that their kids (two boys) should be raised without any constraints on their actions or behavioiur. They felt constraints like that limited their development. Their two boys were around 10, and our our son was a preschooler at the time. These two boys would bully our son really bad. I tried reasoning with both them and their parents without any effect. It got so bad that one day my son started crying the moment they came on our property. At that point I had had enough. So I went up to them and started growling and drooling and barking at them like a rabid dog. We never had any more problems with them after that.

Perhaps because they don't come to visit you at the psych ward?

Hey, it worked. I didn't care what they or their parents thought of my sanity. My son's mental health certainly improved though after they stopped bullying him.

When I was bullied when I was young, my dad flew through the park like a man possesed, hurdled the fence and made the two kids eat about a pint of sand by pushing their faces into the ground. One hit me in the ear with a rock.

He then took a swing at one of the fathers. Never, ever seen my dad like that before or since. Not even 10% that mad.

I became good friends with one of them after that. The other, I have taken a few swings at him since.

I threw rocks at my best friend during my free time, she really was my best friend this is just what I would do when I was bored, I was a HORRIBLE kid (well only until the age of 6). Anyways my cousins had this problem and what they did was teach the kid a few swears, got him to ask his parents some seriously off-limit questions and the parents banned him from their backyard.

Sounds like he could have used a good hosing down to cool off.
