I'm not an expert on the fallout series but isn't this current show about the first Fallout game set in California whereas Rene's character was from the game set in Las Vegas?

The show is about the Fallout universe as a whole and is currently focusing on the West Coast, which Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas are based. Time line wise, this appears to be occurring after New Vegas which was the last game chronologically in the time line.

My joke is about the Mr. House cameo in episode 8.

Finally got around to watching this series, and damn it was way better than I was expecting. Completely nailed the tone of the games while telling a good original story with a fantastic cast, between this and Last of Us it's amazing to finally see video game adaptations done by people who actually care. Loved all the pre-war stuff with Goggins too, and when they showed Vault-Tec meeting with the RobCo CEO I definitely did this

Speaking of New Vegas...
Spoiler!

Just finished it and really enjoyed it in the end.
I was iffy after episode 2 but glad I stuck with it.

Stick in my G-D veins!

I'll never forget the first time I encountered a Death Claw in New Vegas. I had swagger.

Then I was dead.

Hopefully with the recent ~18 month interval between seasons for (the now canceled) Wheel of Time and Fallout from Prime Video, it's a sign that more streaming shows will try to have new episodes faster than the 2+ years that's gotten so common.

For season one Amazon dropped all the episodes day one, looks like season two will do a traditional once a week schedule. IMO I prefer the latter to the former, once a week allows some digestion of the episode and allows it to build up hype and discussion among the fanship

I have only played a little bit of New Vegas. These games were peak when I was at a time in my life where time to game was pretty much nil.

Now my kids are older and working and driving and helping out around the house and my free time allows for some gaming. It will be a while until I get to try any Fallout game or re-try New Vegas because my library of games to play is huge.

Do I need to play the games to enjoy/understand the TV series?

Not in my opinion. I know other people that haven't played the games and loved and understood (for the most part) season 1.

It's maybe a little advantageous (and fun) to know the lore, but the series does a good job of explaining just enough to get a grasp of what's going on.

This. Not a requirement, but you get more out of it. And Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4 are some of the best all time open world games.

Fallout 4 got and still gets some push back but I always love it.

Absolutely not. This show does a great job of having lots of easter eggs for the fans, but also not making any knowledge of the games a pre-requisite for enjoying the show.

One of my favorite shows in a while. I have some knowledge of the games, but have never played them. Great sci-fi with and lots of comedy, without being cheesy or seeming forced.

Yes you do need to play the games first. New Vegas in particular. If you don't play it first then you won't understand THE UTTER TRAGEDY AND COLOSSAL #### UP OF IMMENSE PROPORTIONS that is doing this show after Rene Auberjonois has passed away and is now unable to reprise the role of Mr. House and how it ruins everything they're trying to do and I hope none of the show creators get a good night's sleep ever again.

Other than that, the show is very self contained and has done a wonderful job showing you the world if you don't know anything about the game going in. You only miss small Easter eggs and small tidbits but nothing really consequential. In truth knowing the games actually takes away some of the surprises the show tries to give you.

Three and four were great sandboxes but awful Fallout games.

Ok, let's not start more Fallout vs Fallout civil war. We like the show, and there are good games to be had and let's leave it there yeah?

I'm not? They're great games. I led with them being great games. I'd go back and play 3 without hesitation.

They're not good Fallout games. The show is better at showing you the Fallout world than 3 and 4 are.

Is there a two sentence synopsis of fallout, never played it so no idea. I don’t want to google it because it will spoiler for sure. Do you need to have to have played the game? I know video game themed production are 99% terrible.

Is it a zombie thing, the no nose goggins. Looks stupid? But you guys rave.
