I hope they do a new young stars tournament somewhere with Seattle, Vancouver and Calgary. Edmonton doesn't get invited because #### 'em, that's why!

True, but we would probably still get a chance to see Parekh, Grindin, Suniev, Basha, Battaglia, Laing, King, Brzustewicz, Honzek, Morin, Phillips and maybe the 3 Swedes. With Say and Sergeev in goal you almost have a roster. Plus you get to laugh at the Oilers prospects.

His 1.60 pts/g (playoffs included) beat out all CHL draft eligible players this year outside of Misa and Martone (that's ahead of Desnoyers, Martin, O'Brien, McQueen, Kindel, Bear, Nesbitt, and Cootes who all went ahead of him).
Reschny was involved in 38.8% of all goals Victoria scored when he was in the lineup this year - to put that into perspective Michael Misa was involved in 39.9% of the total goals that Saginaw scored with him in the lineup this season, and Porter Martone was involved in 37.4% of the total goals that Brampton scored with him in the lineup this season.
He was 1st on Canada in u17 scoring
He was 1st on Canada in u18 Hlinka scoring
He was 1st on Canada at the u20 summer showcase in scoring
He was 3rd in points/g at the u18 despite getting to the event late and missing two blowout games (17 goals scored) vs SVK and DEN to begin the tournament
I suspect we were very lucky to get a player of his level at 18 in the draft..

Couldn’t agree more! His hockey sense is top notch, he seems to always know where is teammates are on the ice.
Now do Potter!!!!!

I used to hate the Pentictin tournament because the Oilers "prospects" always seemed good because they were all 30 years old.

Apparently a home and home set with the Flames & Oilers rookies is scheduled for September 12 & 14. Hoping someone here (Freeway? Royle?) can confirm it.

Would the Oilers need to 'borrow' some players to fill a team? lol

Caleb Desnoyers had wrist surgery and will be out at least 3 months. Maybe one less center to compete with Reschny for a spot on Team Canada

10 centers were taken ahead of him! Make them pay!

Will be interesting to see how it unfolds in terms of his development. All the numbers and eye tests seem to suggest he should have gone higher in the draft yet he was pretty consistently ranked where he was selected. What are the deficiencies in his game that scouts saw that put him as the 11th center selected? Of the multiple centers taken in this draft and last draft, he seemed like the preferred player to get extended looks playing a top 2 center at the World Junior showcase this summer. What made him an 18th overall pick instead of a 10th overall pick?

The answer is that Cole is under 6 foot and that is basically it.

During the season there were some skating concerns and some concerns that he is a streaky.
He ended the year with a bang however.

Jarome Iginla was as streaky as any player I've ever seen. Streaky can be okay if it means you're gonna go on a 10 goals in 11 games type of run.

If he was 6’2”, any guesses as to where he likely gets picked? Assuming all the other strengths/weaknesses in his game were the unchanged.

I heard the streakiness comment come up a couple times in the predraft thread, with one poster saying a team’s scout said Reschny was on his do not draft list because of it.
I watched him seven times this year and he always showed up with his high motor and compete, in on every play even when the team wasn’t scoring. Pre New years, however, he wasn’t putting up the points because Victoria didn’t have the finishers. But after they picked up a couple of more skilled guys, the points consistently came. And they kept coming when the games mattered most.
I feel like along with his size, he picked up the streakiness label during the first half of the season (and maybe the season before) and it stuck for some teams and kept him in the middle of the board.
Now that Calgary got him, I’m very glad. This kid is going to be a big part of the Flames’ future.
