Agreed but I do think CBC needs to work a bit harder to overcome its bias and/or perception of bias. It’s a very important news source for Canadians but it also can’t get sucked in and needs to aim to be as centrist as possible and there are many examples over the years it is biased. Limit opinions and stick to news and facts, basically. And get rid of Barton. Stuff like that.

Reality has it's own bias, so by forcing news to fit that, you are skewing reality to fit an arbitrary mold. Like, what do you want them to do, report that Smith has a valid reason to investigate chemtrails, and have Andrew Chang do a 10 minute breakdown on it?

It’s really not just about data and it’s a massive issue if you believe the society is still a democracy. In fact this move is arguably the biggest canary in the coal mine about Trump’s authoritarian intentions. Well, this one or his moves to undermine the judiciary branch- one of the two.

The point is the markets don't believe anything he says as is, hence why TACO is Trump's nickname. When the next jobs report shows 10 million jobs added and wage growth showing the average American is earning $6.66 million a year, you think the markets are going to believe that? I would actually expect the more audacious the claims the Trump admin makes, the worse the markets will react. As those Shaolin prophets once said "Cash rules everything around me", and the markets aren't risking their cash on bull#### information.

If you don’t see a left leaning bias with CBC, which I don’t think you do, there’s not much to talk about or it feels like you’re maybe intentionally missing my point for the sake of debate.
Agree with you on reality is not bias and that the CBC needs to report as such. There’s many examples of the CBC being biased. No I’m not going to go research specific examples and bring them to you. It’s my opinion. I’d add that it’s not just my opinion. Have a gander at bias rating agencies and their perception of the CBC. This isn’t some conspiracy theorist arm wavey thing.

You assume a business is going to have continued freedom in how it operates or invests. Have a gander at China as that’s where it’s going. You can have a business but it’s going to need to be lockstep with the government.

I'm not saying there isn't a bias in the stories they choose to report or how they report them. Biases are inherent to humans. I don't think the biases are anywhere near that of private news organizations, or that they come anywhere close to requiring the CBC to be defunded. Could the CBC benefit from more varied perspectives? Sure. I don't disagree with that. But they do often have guests from the right to comment and discuss issues. They at least try. It's still by far the most fair and balanced reporting we have in Canada.
You never hear Conservatives arguing that in public, they just want to axe it. They don't care to fix what the deem is broken, which should tell you a lot about their ultimate intents.

The bond market crashed and he pissed his pants and folded in about 11 seconds. I know it's grim down there, but we're still a long ways away from the government seizing businesses. Even the slightest hint of that will see capital flee the US in record time.

Just because an organization says something with which I disagree doesn't mean it is biased. I don't really think that the CBC is going around and pushing Liberal talking points and I do think that it is relatively neutral in news coverage. Whenever there is a political debate/conversation there is equal time given to people who represent conservatives as well as liberals. I don't think I can think of many examples of outright bias that seems to be the Ben Mulroney talking point.
Additionally, I appreciate having media that isn't dictated by advertising revenue. I enjoy having my perspective challenged and like the fact that CBC tends to do that with their radio shows in particular. I do think that they have poorly utilized new means of communication and would do well by having more youtube shorts and the like. Make it easy to digest news information and easier to access.

CBC is not biased because Mr.Coffee doesn't agree with some of their viewpoints but rather because organizations who rank media outlets say that they are biased. Media Bias Fact Check ranks them as left-center bias and they claim that CBC has a slight to moderate Liberal bias.

The details are important including this:
CBC’s straight news reporting is consistently low-biased, factual, and covers both sides of issues
That's the part we should all be VERY worried about losing.

MBFC is an American organization, and I don't believe they adjust ratings by country. America, as is known, has it's political centre fairly far right of Canada's. Many Democrats would be Conservatives here. When you look at the items the use to generate the ratings, it's actuality surprising CBC is only just left of American centre.
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/left-...media-sources/
What this tells you is that CBC, even if you ignore all I wrote above, is still not a left wing media source. It's just left. That's not a reason to de-fund it.
The fact that Sun media falls right-centre on their ratings is an indication the entire neutral base is shifted right, due to the makeup of America. We are not America. We sure as #### shouldn't try to be.

When looking at their Left-Right methodology it is telling of the influence of American politics on how they determine bias and why the CBC is important for journalism and news media.

They talk about it like it’s state run media.
It isn’t. It’s a public service. If it was state run, they’d do nothing but suck off the government and never say a single thing against their goals. Which obviously isn’t what happens. But some people see “left leaning” and lose their minds apparently, so they’d like to scrap a public service and get us further and further away from free media. Because they are either corrupt and into a fascist type government and want it, or they are ####ing useless morons.

Another important point from that link that highlights CBC's value and objective approach:
Failed Fact Checks
None in the Last 5 years
Honestly nothing gets me going right now than people not understanding the value of the media and proper reporting, including as a check and balance. We are careening to a world where people only consume information via social media.
It's going away fast. And stuff like defunding PBS is accelerating that trend.
It breaks my heart.

It speaks to the success of the weaponization of cable entertainment masquerading as news that people think an outlet is biased because it doesn't editorialize reality to align with their opinion.
How does one reach common ground with a group that's convinced their subjective reality is objective?
