100%. We brought that into play by holding onto him for the attempt at making the playoffs this past season. Now teams need him to sign for a big return (which he won't do save for a couple of teams). So our last option is to hope he has a great season, doesn't get hurt and a team sees the value in a playoff run with him, knowing he likely won't sign with them.

I'd imagine we'd be looking at late 1st and the usual nothing prospect thrown in. More likely a 2nd and decent roster player that can contribute towards the current season (which is what Conroy will covet more, imo)

Well in my opinion we already held him through two trade deadlines without a trade chasing the playoffs...so my guess is this time hes traded by xmas for max return of a mid 1st a 3rd and a b prospect.

I think it could be better, but by how much is the question and is it worth the risks. IMO the answer is no.

Ras has a bad year and other teams fall in the standings and make similar d available. I see the increase being minimal but it is just as likely that the price stays the same or gets worse. It's just not worth the risk.

There are always injuries. Yes, Rasmus may get injured, and that's certainly a huge risk. However, if a team loses a #1 or #2 D, and they are a legit contender (say Hanifin goes down, or Hedman goes down, or Ekblad/Forsling go down? You pay the price to patch up as best as you can. Rasmus may be the best defencemen on the market at the deadline.


I trust Conroy when he said that it was a mistake to allow Gaudreau go reach the point he did unsigned, and that under Conroy's watch, losing a high value asset will not happen again.

In baseball you only qualify for the compensation pick if you make an offer to the player at a pretty high number (currently over $21MM), which is risky for small market teams. This system tended to benefit the bigger marker teams.

The NHL cap would be expected to alleviate the concern of all players wanting to sign with the same team.

There won't be any similar D available, so that isn't really a risk. There will either be worse D options or significantly more expensive options that are equivalent.

If he stays on with the team, Andersson will likely have a very similar year to last year. If he continues to be deployed with Bahl and Backlund's line with the majority of his starts in the defensive zone then his offensive numbers are likely to suffer.

The coach would need to start deploying Andersson in the role that Weegar had last season. More time with Kadri's line and more offensive zone starts.
