Sure it's not as bad right now, and we're certainly in a better spot that most other countries because of that. The problem is that Trump has already s*** all over CUSMA with this tariff nonsense and could potentially rip it up any time he wants. Canada needs to be prepared for if or when that happens, which is why the government has been busy signing new trade deals with reliable partners and strengthening current ones with our allies around the world.

CUSMA is up for review in 2026, but who knows how that's gonna go. This current administration can't be trusted with anything right now, and they haven't been negotiating in good faith.

Looks like China have slapped Canada with a huge 75.8% tariff on canola in response to Canada freezing out Chinese electric vehicles.

Some stats on Canola exports.

Under the historic data by year you can see China's imports vary a lot, but the vast majority has been going to the US.

Watched a news story last night about how retailers have started taking Bick's Dill Pickles off their shelves. Grilled cheese sandwiches won't be the same for a while!

Not sure we are reading the same graph. China imports more than the US when all 3 are included (especially Canola seed). And the main reason for the export gap 10 years ago is because of a previous dispute on Canadian canola by China.

Canada is the world's largest canola exporter. Over 40 per cent is exported to China.
This is not a nothingburger, and disproportionally impacts prairie provinces, while conceding to China (EV tarrif) would impact Ontario

I think we need to man up and let BYD sell in Canada with 25-40% tariffs. Only caveat. You can only buy 1 per household or the 2nd one is taxed at 200%.
