Sure it's not as bad right now, and we're certainly in a better spot that most other countries because of that. The problem is that Trump has already s*** all over CUSMA with this tariff nonsense and could potentially rip it up any time he wants. Canada needs to be prepared for if or when that happens, which is why the government has been busy signing new trade deals with reliable partners and strengthening current ones with our allies around the world.
CUSMA is up for review in 2026, but who knows how that's gonna go. This current administration can't be trusted with anything right now, and they haven't been negotiating in good faith.

Looks like China have slapped Canada with a huge 75.8% tariff on canola in response to Canada freezing out Chinese electric vehicles.

Some stats on Canola exports.
https://www.canolacouncil.org/markets-stats/exports/
Under the historic data by year you can see China's imports vary a lot, but the vast majority has been going to the US.

Watched a news story last night about how retailers have started taking Bick's Dill Pickles off their shelves. Grilled cheese sandwiches won't be the same for a while!

This is not a nothingburger, and disproportionally impacts prairie provinces, while conceding to China (EV tarrif) would impact Ontario

I think we need to man up and let BYD sell in Canada with 25-40% tariffs. Only caveat. You can only buy 1 per household or the 2nd one is taxed at 200%.

The fact they voted for him after he told them he would put tariffs on is hilarious to me. Dummies. And then thinking a letter would sway his 'thinking' just adds to the comedy.

Pickle talk! In Germany when the pickle jar says spicy, it just means they use spices, so they are Locke friendly.

Seventeen days ago, President Donald Trump made a dramatic claim in an#interview#on the business news channel CNBC. As part of his#July trade agreement#with the European Union, he said, the EU gave the United States a $600 billion present he could spend however he wanted.
“They gave me $600 billion. And that’s a gift,” he said. “That’s not like, you know, a loan, by the way. That’s not a loan that, oh gee, three years comes up, we have to pay it back. There’s nothing to pay back. They gave us $600 billion that we can invest in anything we want.”
The "framework” was released on Thursday. It’s brief and vague – but it shows there is no $600 billion gift.
That doesn’t match Trump’s claim that the EU “gave me” a $600 billion sum to “invest in anything I want.” Justin Wolfers, a University of Michigan economics professor,#said#on social media on Thursday that Trump “didn’t get a penny” of the $600 billion “gift” he had claimed to receive.

Verified by the Globe and Mail as well. Makes sense. US continues the carve out for CUSMA goods. Make this a negotiation about CUSMA. Up to Canadians to simply not buy US goods at any price.
