So yes, I would do the Monahan contract all day - especially when you look at where the salary cap is going. This is how you get players on good value contracts.

Just because the cap is higher doesn't mean we should just spend max risk on all long term young players. Zary has had injuries, his consistency is an open question... 6 mil + long term could make him an anchor. He is not as good as Farabee was pre his large contract, and people are viewing it as an anchor today. Farabee is at 5 per.

People are way to high on Zary for a guy that really doesn't even have a set position at the NHL level yet. Injuries, consistency and not finding a full time home at C or W yet are all big issues that should take him out of the long term extension category.
Not saying he won't get there, but he's a long way off of being a guy like Coronato who just locked in and not the type of guy I'd take a big risk on yet.

Meh, it seems a little silly to quit posting just because of a handful of jerks. I probably interact with maybe 1-2 people every day who I’d call a jerk, but life goes on, you don’t need to make yourself a martyr (if they have even quit posting). The ignore function on here exists for a reason.
With that said I do appreciate all the tidbits of insight, even if it’s a cryptic gif.

I think a long term deal on Zary has to fall under the 6M mark when guys like Logan Stankoven sign at 8x6M, and Jackson Blake signs 8x5.1M

It’s because the internet gives them an anonymous platform to be dicks with no repercussions.
Back in the day you’d get the #### kicked out of you for doing the same thing to people’s face. Or at least that was the risk.

Stankoven has 52 pts in 102 games (0.51 PPG)
Zary has 61 pts in 117 games (0.52 PPG)
Zary has 1st round pedigree and a size advantage.

I'd sign Zary to a $6Mx8. The extra UFA years at a reasonable salary would offset the risk that he hasn't really shown what he can do. Also, $6M is low end second line money now.
Otherwise I think both sides should just agree to a 1 year deal and hit the reset button on the bigger conversation. If Zary can stay healthy for the year and produce the way we hope then both sides will be more comfortable with locking in a meaningful 7 year deal. If they sign it early enough they could make it 8 years still, right?
I like that more than a 3 year bridge that basically sets him up to pull a Tkachuk.

Stankoven is a full developmental year behind Zary which is a massive factor.

It is at 18 and 19, but not so much now. And Zary was limited by the injuries, putting them on pretty much equal footing.
The only advantage that Stankoven has is the Flame-fan-fascination with prospects on other teams.

There can be no non-annoying without annoying right DreDayPucks? Or does this count as a personal attack?

It’s an add on, not a base. Grabbing Andersson and a 1st is already a good start, especially if you’re having potential contract issues. Although, I may be banking on too much of Andersson’s worth with an expiring contract.

We will have to disagree that it's not a factor. Zary played in 162 AHL games which absolutely helped his transition. Comparing their points per game to date doesn't do it for me for many reasons. Coronato technically has a worse career point average than both of them and just got 6.5M. The seasons they just had are absolutely the most important factor here and Zary doesn't have much going for him in the regard.
Stankoven just puts up 38 points while being a year younger, and also didn't suffer through two rather significant injuries.
Additionally he was also significantly better in the AHL than Zary was.

Stankoven would go in the 1st round in a redraft, I feel like the "pedigree" is overstated. Stanky's WHL numbers are better than Zary.
Size, yeah, but Zary doesn't really use his anyways so I am not sure it really separates them in value.
Stankoven is also a year younger, and has better AHL numbers.

I see while I had neglected to refresh that HLM made all my arguments better than me, lol. Stankoven > Zary, and I actually find it strange that Enoch used the injuries to justify the extended development timeline... that's a negative on Zary's value ultimately.

He’d still be a year out with a three year deal.
