Not ideal IMO. Would rather bet on the player and buy some UFA years. But I’m guessing neither the flames or Zary’s camp want that at this point.

Is it Zary's camp that wants less term, or is it Calgary? I would much rather offer a 6-8 year deal for Zary. Especially if we can lock in a term that is somewhere in the 5's. I suppose injuries has killed the AAV he likely wants.

I'm sure Calgary would sign him to term at the right figure.
But that figure would be well below what Zary wants, as I imagine he wants to bet on himself and show what he can do if healthy.

Everyone here needs a vacation. Just take a little vacation. Not to be the touch grass guy, but seriously, go hang out in the sun for a bit. When the sun returns. I think we're all getting a bit of the ol vancouver flu.

I know at a glance Zary shouldn't be as equally prioritized as Coronato but he should. He's the Backs replacement within two years at middle six center. It's been bugging me he hasn't been signed yet.
Hopefully this gets done sooner than later.

The Flames could still get outbid by a team like Detroit, who can offer up one single young player who is better than what the Flames can offer up.

I like Zary, but he has to understand that his injuries have given the team pause on what he is and where he is truly at in his development. If he pushes much more, he may find out like Killington did, that the grass is not always greener somewhere else.

Yeah, those knee injuries were really bad luck on his part. Probably would have gotten close to Coronato’s contract if they didn’t happen and he kept his scoring pace up

A two year deal is not great from a Flames perspective though. I would rather pay more to lock him in for at least three.

As bad as the injuries have been, they were both pretty freak accidents. I wouldnt consider him injury prone compared to guys that get lightly bumped and then are out for weeks with an injury. My concern for future injuries is pretty low tbh

I'd still give him 7 x $6M and not really flinch about it at all.

1. Sec has quit posting before because of getting in hot water
2. it's no one's fault, other than the people sharing it on twitter, which was inevitable because every fan is starved for rumors.

This time, I think it has more to do with a jerk than Twitter. At least one of their 3 accounts are gone.

An "expendable prospect in the top 15" doesn't sound that enticing to me.

I'd do the Monahan in a heart beat.
7 years, $6.375M AAV.

HUH!
No way lol. When Monahan was 23 he already had more goals than Zary has points in his career.

Not saying I disagree, but that was a very different market back then.
Salaries are much higher now, and teams are more willing to take on risk for long-term value.
