Yeah, he’s a 200 foot player now, doesn’t resemble the one who was traded here. I have no clue what Vancouver is trying to do. They should have done everything possible to get rid of Petterson before the no trade kicked in.

Sure. But his value falls every year because he's already peaked and aging into his 30s. He was a first liner last year, is a second liner this year, and will be a third liner a couple seasons from now. His game won't translate super well to a third line role either.

And he's great in the locker room.

I think he's perfect

Nurse is a worse contract than Huberdeau for sure but i also think that Frederic deal for eight (8!!!) years is a train wreck. 15 points last year, yeah he deserves 30 million. That Bouchard contract is a yikes too.

There are many worse contracts than Huberdeau now. Dino7c says it best he’s overpaid by $3mm but it doesn’t make it the worst. Nurse is a literal liability out there.

The list sucks and nobody is “overreacting” haha- more like just posting opinions.

Severally overpaid D that you think have unmovable contracts seems to get traded more often then you would expect vs wingers who are a dime a dozen

I feel like with a few million retained the oilers could get out of the Nurse deal taking a contract back . Teams are willing to take chances on bigger physical D. I don’t think the Flames would have a hope of getting out of the Huberdeau .

The problem is as he gets worse the team is getting (or should be) better and leaving a rebuild

He’s hurting the tank now by playing decent , and will hurt the future competing team by getting worse as he ages

Perfect is the last word I would use haha

Kadri is aging too. And Vets with positive value will be traded as they near UFA status. Meanwhile, with the flames picking in the mid-first round, new draft prospects are 3-5 years away from meaningfully contributing. And Conroy has shown meaningful restraint with regards to signing new UFAs.

If you run through the progression of it, things get a lot worse before they get better IMO.

A player with 0 points during the regular season but wins the Conn Smythe is easily worth 8 million or more.

I’d bet if there was a vote Huberdeau for Petterson it would be a landslide yes vote to accept the trade.
But what he’s saying is that a guy who maybe is better per 60 but doesn’t play as many 60s isn’t a good thing.

That’s crazy. He has underperformed for 3 years now

He has been the highest paid on a lottery team. It would be hard not to hate it.
Yeah it’s a bad contract that should have never been offered, but hating and calling it the worst contract in the league is an overreaction.

I’d argue it’s not even the worst contract on the Flames after Sharangovich’s dud season.

He scored 0.44 points per game on a team whose offence was truly awful and was paid $3.1 million. His new deal hasn't started yet. What exactly were you expecting?

I assume you're referring to the new deal, and while it might look a little concerning, calling it worse than Huberdeau before it begins is lunacy.

Yep I fully understood him, it’s just not great logic when injuries can happen to anyone at any time. Applying that same logic to the flames would mean we should more or less write off Zary as he’s frequently injured, you won’t get many 60s out of him.
