There was nothing really new being discovered or engineered, it was just enhancements on older tech.
The turbo lasers in the Empire era were the same concept as the ones in the old republic just more powerful.
Hyper drives were hyper drives, just faster with faster nav computers.
I think it could be called scientific stagnation.

It's like the ice in NHL rinks. We're using basically the same system we did in 1960.
A few chemicals, a couple upgrades to the Zam, slightly better freezing tech... but a guy from then and a guy from now could swap jobs and make it work.
Errr... SW content... I always wanted to hear more stories about ships that get lost in hyperspace.

It still doesn't make any sense. How do you even write a program?
Instead of trying to find lame in universe explanations, like they've tried to do with Klingons, the prequels should have just jumped to advanced tech and they say "well, in the 1970's this is how the tech was imagined. We now understand that's all pretty silly and impractical given where we are today, so we adjusted it."
Now for the rest of SW into eternity, they are stuck with buttons and flashy lights. Stubbornly stupid.

S2 was an absolute masterpiece. The way this show developed characters, connected all the storylines, and the acting made you care so much. Just unbeleiveable. A masterpiece. Makes Rogue One even better.
If I could nitpick one thing, is that there is a lack of alien species. Almost exclusively humans, but again that's just a nitpick.
I just can't believe how perfect this thing was. Amazing.
Of course, none of this matters because Palpatine and the Empire just come back in 30 years lol with 10,000 Star Destroyers.

Its sad, With all the series, I just have zero desire to rewatch any of them, even Andor which was heads and shoulders over the rest.
