I really hope rasmus gets traded...
I still dont think theres enough new growth in this core for it to be succesful in a few years.
If its a sweetheart hometown discount it's definitely easier to swallow, but I still think its best to move on.

My info matches Sec.
Andersson’s want from Calgary is off significantly from what Craig feels he wants to offer.
Rasmus won’t be a flame long term at this rate.
Still told that trade is the priority, but his price is firm and won’t be pressured to low ball.
Still believes Calgary and Dallas are in talks.

We would probably need to juice both offers. Would the Vegas 1st or Flames 2nd in the Dallas deal and Mews in the Wild deal be enough?
|
Man.... I just wouldn't juice that offer to get a LWer. Even with how good Robertson is, adding him to the Flames at this time does not make a lot of sense. I already think Andersson and Coleman and all of the Flames remaining retention slots for this year is a big ask for a piece we do not need.
Then again, after the Marchment trade, I think moving Robertson out of the Stars lineup makes no sense. Even with Coleman coming back... it would basically make Coleman the new #1LW with Benn and one of the centers (Duchene?) to round out the LW depth.
In the end, if Robertson were on the block then I would rather use the extra trade asset to flip him into the C we need.

Agreed, Robertson is super talented but his range is still off for when he’ll be useful for us to compete.

For Conroy he sees good future RD in the system coming and if he can move Andersson to improve the team in the long term or that fills other holes the team has he is going to look at that. This isn't a have to trade him scenario though or that the player wants out, the player wants a certain term and dollar figure the Flames are not willing to give him right now. That does not mean the door is closed on giving it to him at a further date down the road.
|
This is a really great reminder to all.
The Flames do not have to brute force a deal to appease the Stars or VGK and it is not just because those two teams are bidding against other teams like the Red Wings, Sharks, Hurricane, Leafs, Bruins, Blues, Sabres... they are also bidding against the Flames who can extend Andersson, take him off the trade block, and deny all of those teams the chance to upgrade their RD depth.
I am still hopeful that the Sharks up their offer first. They must be looking at Klingberg and thinking he would look a lot better on the 3rd pair instead of the 1st pair.
Orlov-Andersson
Mukhamadullin-Liljegren
Ferraro/Dickinson-Klingberg
X: Leddy, Thompson
That D group is starting to look viable. If Dickinson kicks down the door they can trade Ferraro for an upgrade in the middle 6 wingers. But without a #1RD that right side is still pretty gross.

Once Conroy finishes telling Nill his 45th story about Jarome Iginla they will finally have a deal done.

Yeah this lines up more with what's been said all summer. Dissentowners info sounds more like pre-off season stuff where Andersson saw (or at least publicly stated) Calgary as a priority and wanting to be a long term flame. He'll be gone most likely.
And if they don't get what they want I cant see them simply signing him well into the season as simply as diss makes jr sound. Him and his agents will just say "thank you, but we'll see what's out there July 1".

You keep trying to jump all over me and discredit me jayswin, fill your boots.im just passing along what I have heard recently, not earlier. The door is not closed at all on Andersson signing in Calgary.

Andersson seems like the type of player who will hit a steep decline going into his 30’s.

It's doesn't matter what the offers are. I think it would be safe to assume if the offers are around 2nd round value now, we aren't getting 3 1sts at the dealine. I think it is reasonable that you could get more, but not enough for me to hold out for the little bit extra and take on the risk of him getting hurt and bury a guy ike Kuznetsov and hold Parekh off the PP so Ras can prove he is good enough to get a better return.
Just do it now...now for means before the season starts.

Conroy can play this as long as he wants because in the end he can sign him to that long term deal and negotiate a m-ntc in year 4 or something where they can revisit a trade. It isn't like Andersson is not a useful player that can help develop the younger D men or be an important cog moving forward. If he can't get proper value in a trade he can push it down the line without losing him for pennies on the dollar.
|
And? He could do that, but is that better than trading him this summer? My opinion is what I think Conroy should do, not what he will do.
Also, whatever the offer is now that Ras would sign could change come trade deadline. He could play well, team could fall in the standings and he might change his mind.

I do hope we trade Andersson as well, along with the other vets. I want us to be bold!
But I know realistically it won't happen.

Dropping from an 8 year deal to a 6 year deal is not just a massive risk to Andersson... it would potentially be a 7 or 8 figure mistake. Considering how agents get paid, I highly doubt they would be advocating for a decision that reduces their earnings to that degree.
If it is a safe bet that he could get 8.5Mx8 ($68M total), he would need to get some kind of a combination of a 6 year and 2 year to get the same earnings over those years.
$10Mx6 + $4Mx2 - I don't see a GM throwing that kind of dollars at him on the first contract (but Dobson did just get $9.5M, so who knows).
$9Mx6 may be more likely on the first contract but then he would need $7Mx2 when he turns 35, which is possible but increasingly risky with age and/or injuries working against him.
Basically, if he gets hurt or loses a significant step there may not be a contract for him at 35 and that would potentially lose him $7-14M in career earnings.
If one of these GMs dangle $9-9.5Mx8 years in front of him, I don't think there is any way he can match those totals with a combination of 6+2 year deals.

Breaking: Rasmus may be traded before the season starts, or he may not. Rasmus may be traded by the trade deadline next season, or he may not. He may still resign, or he may not. It’s all I got folks.

I personally want Ras gone asap because I think the flames might be a basement team without him. We are entering the phase of the rebuild where the flames need to get some early first round draft picks.
Good player though - one of my faves
