If you know of an actual offer I'm happy to debate whether or not they should have taken it.

This conversation strikes me as the difference between an auction approach or an asset value approach. The auction approach just says here's a player that the team doesn't want back and he goes to the best offer by this date. That approach is consistent with the posters who are in a panic to trade Rasmus before the season. I have written previously that my preference would be to have simply auctioned Rasmus off for the best offer this summer to whatever team will take him as a rental. However, if Conroy is not doing the auction approach then he simply cannot be seen to panic to have Rasmus return in season. He loses all leverage and will not get the asset's value at all. Whether Conroy has fairly judged the asset's value at this stage is impossible to tell until at minimum we see the price he is willing to accept (even then it is difficult unless there are leaks of alternative offers).

Anyone notice that the kid watching the train pull away was wearing a blue and yellow back pack? Hmmm!

Andersson+Coleman (both 50% retained) for Robertson
Zary for Rossi
Robertson-Kadri-Coronato
Huberdeau-Rossi-Sharangovich
Farabee-Frost-Pospisil
Lomberg-Backlund-Klapka
We would probably need to juice both offers. Would the Vegas 1st or Flames 2nd in the Dallas deal and Mews in the Wild deal be enough?

Would prefer to keep the picks, prospects and young roster players that the flames have. I’m fine using a retained Coleman to bolster the return on a trade and or take back a bad contract to bolster the return but I want to keep developing Zary and use that Vegas pick.

Ras stays, he needs to play. 24 mins a night and time on the PP. The gain of having him out for young players is valuable to me. I'm not just looking at the return alone.
Parekh needs to be on the PP and needs 18-20 a night, he is too good for the AHL or OHL.
Weegar gets 24
Bahl could use a bit more ice around 22 mins.
Ras here blocks other player opportunity. Him gone allows the team to explore starting with Kuznetsov and giving him 16-18 mins a night, if he struggles and depending on who is playing well in the AHL, it allows for other players to get a call throughout the season. This asset management/development is just as important as turning that 2nd to a 1st. Dallas 1st will not be in a range that gives you high end odds of hitting on a high-end prospect.
Now also could drive up the value of our own 1st. That is more important than the return for me. If the team plays well without him, more than likely a young player stepped in a played very well.
Ras is durable, but injuries are a factor in this situation. I also don't want to see contract talks restarted because the trade returns aren't as expected. Time to move on.

Well I hate to disappoint you but if Conroy does not get what he wants for Andersson by the trade deadline I fully expect him to give Andersson his 8 year deal to stay in Calgary. The Flames have the cap room and the player is open to staying. Conroy can play this as long as he wants because in the end he can sign him to that long term deal and negotiate a m-ntc in year 4 or something where they can revisit a trade. It isn't like Andersson is not a useful player that can help develop the younger D men or be an important cog moving forward. If he can't get proper value in a trade he can push it down the line without losing him for pennies on the dollar.

It depends if Andersson wants to go to a contender though right? I believe he would have the final say.

Maybe Andersson’s mind will be swayed if the Flames go on a heater like the last 20 games of last season.

Everything I have heard along with what Andersson has said is his preference is a long term deal with the Flames. I don't think people get how much Andersson loves Calgary. He believes the team is headed in the right direction. I have very little doubt if Conroy offered him what he asked for when they met he would put pen to paper tmrw. For Conroy he sees good future RD in the system coming and if he can move Andersson to improve the team in the long term or that fills other holes the team has he is going to look at that. This isn't a have to trade him scenario though or that the player wants out, the player wants a certain term and dollar figure the Flames are not willing to give him right now. That does not mean the door is closed on giving it to him at a further date down the road.

If that’s the case, that’s a huge note on the flames trajectory and culture. A guy like Rasmus wanting to stay that badly reflects very well on the organization. I still think he gets moved and I hope he gets a cup out of it. Love the guy

Keeping Andersson and giving him $6 x 8 years would be great. He shouldn't be paid more than Weegar, even with the cap increase. I'm guessing he thinks he's worth $8 x 8 or more.

I thought someone on here had reported that the relationship between Andersson and the Flames was poisoned after the Vegas thing came out. It is hard to keep up. Thank you for the information!

If he wants to stay long term, that deal is sitting for him to sign it. Flames have made their respectful best offer. No its not market rate, no its not max term.
It's the old "hometown discount" many have and have not taken before him.
