Scorps conditions management was insane. How he managed to keep track still blows my mind.

This deal came together fairly quickly. We had cap space and were able to add a #1 G in Bobs and a 2nd line winger on a great contract in Toffoli. Sucks to lose David as I think he is a 2nd pairing D in the NHL however this move made sense for our organization in our quest to repeat! Thanks Rumy for the easy talks, hope it works out well for both squads.

Simple deal here. Schwartz is a 72ov and can fit on our 2nd or 3rd line. TVR is a cap dump and Cormier is a young D with potential. Now we need to find a way to add another D.

$1M cheese for this year
To SJ
2026 4th (LA), Massimo Rizzo, Scott Perunovich
Sorry to see Perunovich go, but I need to fill out the roster with some scrubs. With him gone, the last legacy player on the Kings is Gustavsson (and maybe Tarasov?). He's a bit of a frustrating player, because all of the talent is there, if he can put it together.

Team: New York Rangers
- Marner, Mitch (RW) NHL
- 2026 2nd Round Draft Choice (ana)
- 3.75M in cap
Team: Minnesota Wild
- Rossi, Marco (C) NHL
- Geekie, Conor (C) AHL
- Brunicke, Harrison (D) AHL
- 2026 3rd Round Draft Choice (phi)
Gave up some futures here, but I wanted to bring in one more top line player to compete with some of the stacked clubs, including Calgary.
I think this now gives us a team that can contend for a cup.

At the core, I think my team is not there yet, so I felt splitting Marner into multiple youngish assets might be more beneficial in the long run.
There was no way I wasn't going to make a play for one of the top Austrians in the league at some point, and I'm happy to add Rossi here. I remain a big believer in the kid and think he will be a solid top 6 center for a long time. His progression has been solid and I think he has more to give ... just get him away from John Hynes, please.
Geekie was overdrafted a bit by the Coyotes and I think he would have benefitted from a full AHL season with big minutes, instead of playing bottom six minutes with the Lightning. But there's a player there and I think he can pop if given the opportunity higher up the lineup. Wheeler had him at 25 in his 2022 re-draft recently, in a similar bracket as my prospects Luneau, Poitras and Casey - I think that's fair. Brunicke has had a great D+1 year and looks like a steal for the Penguins. He adds to a D prospect pool that I already loved before (Luneau, Molendyk, Aitcheson, Casey, Boumedienne), and I think he has decent upside. Wheeler believes in the kid, and so do I.
Combining my big offseason deals with Colorado and Minnesota, it adds up to this:
IN: Marco Rossi, Matty Beniers, Connor Geekie, Harrison Brunicke, 2026 3rd
OUT: Yanni Gourde, Matthew Wood, Ross Colton, 2026 1st, 2025 2nd (#57)
I still like Wood as a prospect (skating remains an issue), and that 1st rounder next year might sink this sequence of trades if my team bombs and/or the lottery gods are cruel, but overall, I'm very happy with those moves. The bet is that either Rossi or Beniers can find another gear, then it might be a really nice 1-2-3 punch down the line with them and Caleb Desnoyers. Geekie and Brunicke just add to a suddenly pretty healthy prospect pool (11 players in Wheeler's recent top 100 drafted skaters list).
Thanks for the fun talks, Jiri. I actually think that's the first major deal we've made, so it was long overdue anyway.
