My opinion is as a fan, you should want your team to be held to a high standard. I'm not going to pretend everything is great with the team direction if I see a path to improve it.
We have always done the same thing, and ownership mindset has been since the 2004 season that you can sneak in and who knows what happens after that. While this is true, and teams do catch fire from time to time (like Montreal when they went on a run, or St Louis), this is not a path for sustained success.
We all want the same thing, for them to win. I think the only way we will win a cup is if we commit more to a rebuild. Some people think retooling on the fly could work, I don't see a lot of examples of that working without having elite players. But I can see the other side of the argument.
We can technically have less success as an organization if we turn into Buffalo. There is always the possibility a rebuild does not work.
|
I don’t want to confuse your argument with real facts but the Flames have now completed the third consecutive offseason where they did not sign a single UFA to a contract that was above the league average salary. The Flames over the previous 19 years before the Conroy era had never even had two consecutive years where they never signed a UFA above the average salary.
One has to ask themselves, why did they make this fundamental change moving completely away from signing high priced unrestricted free agents if nothing has changed at all under the current regime?

I guess. It seemed pretty directed coming right after my post with tine in between. But I suppose it may have been more general.

Maybe if anything ever happens again I'll stop snoring. Sorry for the confusion.

And you'd be wrong to say that's the start when they picked Huberdeau and Gudbranson 3rd OV in both 2010 and 2011 (and had 9 picks in the first 2 rounds in those seasons)

I would tell Kadri we are trading you as things have changed and unfortunately we are not a contender like you signed up for. What teams would you consider.
And then trade Kadri, Coleman, Backlund. Get the tank rolling. I'd also see if anyone would take Huberdeau if we retained.
|
They actually need a number of dmen. They have Dickson and a bunch of older poor dmen.

If over the course of a few years a team's trajectory changes, I don't see why that should impact teams' abilities to make moves that reflect that change.

Not saying you can't do it.
Am suggesting the answer wasn't "shut up"

And the goalie they are counting on played 13 games for them and was sub .900 in them. Probably will be good, but it’s still not for sure that they are set there.

I meant just for building a contender. You need an elite defender so if they draft one, you can build around them.
They obviously need to add a bunch of secondary pieces, but these are much easier to find than the elite centers and dmen.
