Well that was rough. Finally created a couple chances after being a man up, but nothing really dangerous.

It’s not a good performance tonight, but we certainly have the chances to win. Camargo in the first half, and then Musse and Kobza with grade A chances.

Warschewski’s frustration was definitely showing in the 2nd half.

The other results this weekend went our way but this was definitely an opportunity lost to gain ground on the 3 teams in front of us.

After sitting through that, I can understand why there were only a few dozen people in the crowd. Making someone pay to watch that level of football is a crime. It was dire stuff.

Out of curiosity what's our strong teams vs weak teams in terms of support? At first glance looks like Halifax and Forge are the class of the league with Ottawa and Cavalry modestly behind but stil decent.

1. Cavalry
2. Halifax
3. Forge
4. Ottawa

Then the rest are weak/life support?

I haven't seen much of Cavalry over past ~6 weeks as life is busy, but it seems to me that having Warschiewski dropping deeper or more to the wing to accommodate Elva is a mistake. Not sure if that's the case in last night's game but it has certainly been a trend and when he's the only reliable goal threat it is a problem. I think Elva's game could suit coming in off the wing, or play two up top and sacrifice a midfielder. Keep Warschiewski closer to the box

Second poor performance against the worst club in Canada in 6 days. Questionable lineup decisions and tactics on the coaching staff's part. Poor effort and execution on the players part.

Better a slump in July than in October but it is dreadul watching Cavalry the last few weeks.

Hard to say exactly, but here are some attendance figures, not including this past week:

A big caveat for Valour is their 11k afternoon school game, which I think is a great idea, but it inflates their average somewhat. Forge also had a big one, but their attendance is admittedly strong with or without the school game.

But I would agree with your assessment of the four "stable" teams, even if it is just my personal perception. I have long spoken against CFL stadiums as suitable for soccer, but credit where due, Forge and Ottawa have made it work.

Despite a promising start and a nice little stadium, Pacific is declining. Could be the Langford vs. Victoria issue... York is a disaster and always has been. Valour and Vancouver just don't seem to have captured people's attention.

I have no idea how deep the pockets of each owner are, or more importantly, their tolerance. But seeing such empty stands in some cities is disheartening. I do have some serious concerns about the next few years and whether the league will make it long after the World Cup bump in interest, when/if it happens.

Yikes, that decline in Ottawa is nothing to ignore. Why have they dropped so precipitously?

And York appears to be heading in the right direction, with a pretty solid increase through the first part of this season.

I'll often record the games, avoid social media, and watch later if I'm busy (I was at a BBQ/hail storm).

About 10 minutes into watching yesterday's match on a delay, I mindlessly picked up my phone and scrolled Facebook briefly (I'm usually more disciplined than that), saw the result, and mercifully was spared 80 more minutes of it.

The highlights package, if you can call it that, was more than enough.

York's figures include that 7k "home" game in Quebec City for CPL On Tour.

Edit: And if you look at each team's "low" attendance and draw a line semi-arbitrarily at 3,000, that's probably a good indicator of the strength of the fan base, or lack thereof. And you end up with the same top 4 as what jayswin presumed.

I doubt the league survives past the end of next season. I think it was only set up in order to fulfill the requirement from FIFA that Canada have a domestic league in order to host some matches in the World Cup.

We had one guy retire to run a mushroom farm, and now Daan Klomp, undoubtedly the best player Cavalry have had in their history, is mowing lawns to make a living because he makes more money doing that. The interest just isn't there her in Canada, unfortunately. Travel is too expensive when you can only fly to games.

I think it's fine for what it is... and the attendance is not terrible, I don't see it crashing but I could see York moving for sure. The league also need to adjust the salaries to match what the league is making instead of setting some arbitrary salary and then hoping the league will support it. There are loads of semi-pro leagues around the world and Canada having one of those would be better than nothing. There's a way to make it work with crowds of 2-5k it will just take adjustment. If it's not professional that is ok, but it's still miles better than having nothing.

The root problem for me is the same as its always been though, there is still almost no soccer infrastructure in Canada.

Local governments will spend tons of money on hockey rinks and football stadiums, but even though there are tons of people playing soccer they won't build basic small stadiums. 3/8 of those teams have suitable stadiums. And agree that Hamilton and Ottawa are somehow succeeding despite the CFL stadiums. VFC has a half built stadium with most of the amenities originally verbally agreed upon not added. Even the teams that have decent stadiums, Cgy is way too far out of town (I admire you guys who go but could be so much better centrally) as is Victoria. Halifax is the only appropriately sized centrally located stadium and it is obviously hanging on by a thread now that their renos just got shot down.

I think its also important to acknowledge that this wasnt a 'Summer like any other.'

They're at very different levels, but again, it cant be ignored that CPL was competing against Copa America and Club World Cup for eyeballs.

I don't know, man. There's a summer tournament every year. The Euros, the Copa America, the Gold Cup, the World Cup, the Women's World Cup, now the Club World Cup...

You heard it here first ↑ , the CPL goes on to be one of the top ten leagues in the world, with a CPL team winning the Club World Cup in the next decade.
