At least once every couple days I am seeing someone refer to me as Paulie or someone else, accusing me of a duplicate account. Getting registered on to this site requires you to basically give your 1st born child with the amount of information they ask for. So it is pretty easy to check and see that I do NOT have multiple accounts. Please stop these crazy accusations.
In general the whole “you have multiple accounts” nonsense is embarrassing to read. I actually can’t believe people get themselves worked up enough to be spewing things like that. Even if it was the same person across multiple accounts, who the #### cares? What difference does it make?

Don’t think that’s how the internet works.

That’s people letting the results override what actually happened though. Conroy did almost everything he could to set the team up for a bottom ten finish and then they greatly outperformed expectations
The Andersson non-trade is a bit of a fumble but for all we know he thought they’d get a better return at the deadline rather than last offseason but then didn’t pull the trigger because they were in the playoff hunt.
He hasn’t done anything stupid in free agency and so far all we know is he targeted young defensemen but didn’t meet the price.

One of the things I do like about Conroy is he follows through on whatever he says he’s going to do. He has been quite vocal about what his plan is and he hasn’t really deviated from it.

Yeah, I'm giving Conroy the benefit of the doubt. Letting his actions speak for themselves. The drafting has been pretty great, the development has improved. There's more opportunities for younger players to crack the lineup, etc. Trading has been a little underwhelming, but Conroy didn't make any glaring blunders either. If I had to use a chess analogy, then Conroy is great at finding and making the easy moves, but I have yet to see any actual brilliancies in his GM game.

That said, I could see why so many fans would be upset with a quick patch job of a retool, or a rebuild that doesn't give the Flames enough (future) stars to ever be considered a true contender. Personally, I'm not arrogant enough to think that my plan is better than what an entire NHL front office comes up with.

Im surprised no one has mentioned Nashville as a reason to hold onto the Vegas pick next year. They went from a 99 point team to being a well earned bottom 5 finisher despite making the biggest splash in free agency. Now Marner is a much more effective player than Stamkos was. But the loss of Pietrangelo on the backend will have an impact on their team. If a guy like Eichel ended up missing 30 games like Josi did this year that would hurt them.

Likewise the Preds can serve as a cautionary tale for the Flames to not overreact to a better than expected season. I doubt they were rated as a bottom 5 team in the preseason last year. So far the Flames seem like they're being pragmatic not reaching too far to try and improve now while moving out expiring assets that do have more value. Really Vladar is about the only one they missed getting say a third round pick from.

I think Byrum to Hanifin is a reasonable comparison. Hanifin had not looked like a star player in Carolina, but showed a floor. Even as a Flame he was a bit underwhelming until Sutter got this hands on him. So I can see why you proceed with caution here.

I can be sucked into thinking Byrum could be better than what he has shown to date. But he might just be a solid top 4 guy that you pay the Lexus price to buy...but he's more of the Toyota Corolla. Solid player who can play and be useful. But does not deliver the thrills you thought you paid for. But with the cap looking to expand in the next few years, the 7.375 that Hanifin got could be more like 9 now knowing that the cap will be 113 plus in two years.

Yeah, I posted that BOS and NYR serve as cautionary examples for the VGS pick, then immediately thought of NSH as another, but the point was made. But yeah, NSH might have been even more surprising.

Paulie, you and I agree on a lot of things, and I respect your opinion on hockey topics, but I'm begging you: Please try to tame down your aggressiveness, avoid insults and condescension, and ignore those who try to bait you. We can all talk hockey with civility and respect for each other.

Let the man crash out, it's the summer and there's nothing actually happening with the team. Where else are we to get our entertainment?

As I have pointed out before, this is a mature site with a lot of experienced posters. You have to respect the work of the mods because they don't take the easy way and just ban people. They give people time and opportunity to mature and grow. I can remember years ago groups of people would gang up on one poster with all kinds of insults, but the site has continued to grow over the years and people are using more dialogue to discuss things, even differences.

Rule of thumb; Debate the topic and not the poster. Try not to say things on the internet that you wouldn't say to your family, your children or your friends. If one side is keeping it civil it is a lot easier for the other side to keep it civil, but insults can be hurtful and create closed-mindedness and evolving into silly arguments.

One thing this site can be better at is trying to be a bit more respectful towards those who provide and volunteer additional information. It is quite unique to have a site that has so many people with different contributions that enhance both quality and overall experience. A lot of people put in a lot of their own time and work so it's not hard to feel discouraged when one starts feeling underappreciated or get caught in some petty insult. Pretty cool that hey are doing this on their free time.

If you know someone is a troll and they're polarizing certain topics it is better to just ignore them rather than give them more attention and feed their useless agenda. It's alarming to see how many people who know this fall into the habit of debating and arguing with the troll.

Lots of civil discussion which is pretty impressive.
