It was meant as a joke. We likely won't ever know what really happened in full detail. It's just funny that the story you heard painted Kane as the white night defending a lady's honour...doesn't seem very Kane like.

Come on, a notoriously problematic player is traded to your team and you come to share a story that sounds like it was written by the Canucks PR team.
It's not like you shared a news article where someone actually pu effort into interviewing people or the police. You chose to share an Orange Julius style rumor that painted Kane in the best possible light - on another teams message board. You knew you were going to get chirped a little.
