Your list is better flipped to be honest
Freshmen or Sophomores to win the Hobey Baker since 2015
-2015 Jack Eichel F Fr
-2019 Cale Makar D So
-2021 Cole Caufield F So.
-2023 Adam Fantilli F Fr.
-2024 Macklin Celebrini F Fr.
I know which group of players I'm going with.

I believe that's TheScorpion's whole point. Players who win the Hobey Baker as upperclassmen, especially seniors, usually don't amount to much as NHLers.

^ Correct. And I do know what an upperclassman is.
I don't think the obvious implication was that listing Howard next to Gaudette and Vesey was supposed to be flattering to him ...

The Oilers have to try anything and everything possible to push McDavid into signing an extension. I don't think this trade moves the needle all that much.

Suniev is about 7 months younger I think than Howard (but was drafted a year later so Suniev is older relative to draft position- if that makes sense). still don't his D+1 and D+2 numbers at least equal if not exceed Howards? I like Suniev as a prospect but is that a fair comparison for player slotting or no?

Leaving the zone early and not worrying about a two-way game is exactly what the Coilers are looking for.

Didn't World Hockey Report rave about the O'Reilly pick as sheer and utter brilliance, and a stud in the making?

Bit of a throw back to the decade and a half of darkness for the Coilers, they are gifting a rookie top 6 and anointing him a 40 goal scorer.

Agreed.
O'Reilly
2026 2nd round pick
2027 2nd round pick
2028 1st round pick (unprotected)
For
Anderson (50% retained)
1 of Poirier, Kuznetsov, or Soloyov
Would give capped-out TB a RD which they need desperately.
They are still in their window and would likely be able to re-sign him.
Plus gives them some D depth which they also lack in the event of injury or a cup run.
CGY gets a futures package with a potential future 3C, an unprotected first (unprotected as it is so far out), and some 2nd rounders.

I was just thinking the same thing. The Oilers D is going to be real happy with all of the help they are waiting on standing at Center.

I doubt you get the equivalent of two firsts and two seconds (albeit a late first in O’Reilly) for that package. Don’t think anyone the 3 prospects have much more value than a 3rd/4th round pick.

How many of them have been forced into a top line spot on an opening night lineup in the NHL though. That's key here. Had those other guys had been handed opportunity for 25 minutes a night next to McDavid and full powerplay time we'd be having different opinions of that list.

Will Butcher did start off well in the NHL too with 44 points as a rookie but then dropped off the face of the universe. It would be interesting to know what happened

Former Flames great Corban Knight also won the Hobey Baker if I recall. Didn't really amount to much in the NHL, proving again that younger players who win this thing is the key predictor in whether the player will be impactful in the NHL.
