Eric Jamieson did not attend this year because he is already at U Denver taking classes; Flames were fine with this since Jamieson was tops in fitness testing last summer, so they know he is taking care of himself, plus U Denver will offer great training and facilities

Thanks for this update, have actually heard great things about jamieson from a scout I know. Was a little worried when his contract/ELC status was up in the air.

But there are small 4cs out there. There's a role for small pesky/gritty guys on bottom lines. Not as many top skill guys though. And the reach is an issue for shutdown centres.
|
You do realize the average NHL centre is only 6'1? Are we really saying 2 inches means a guy can't be a top 6 centre? I'm not buying it.

Seems like more prospects are taking the college hockey path these days.

They are, because the NCAA changed their eligibility rules to allow CHL players to go to the NCAA once they're college aged.
Flames current prospects that are confirmed to be doing this are:
Jameison
Mews
Misa
Reschny
Lane (in 2026)
None of those would have been allowed to play NCAA in the past.

Without the scrimages from years past, there are very few updates this year. This is unfortunate - I love to hear how the prospects are standing out from our CP contingent!

When I was younger I used to go to alot of CIS games and I always thought the caliber was better than the junior leagues. Mainly due to more mature players.
But the university programs get little press or promotion

My neighbour plays div 3 at St Mary's in Minnesota. He played 4 years SJHL too and a couple camps in the WHL. He told me the quality of hockey is better in the SJ and and W, but the game is way faster in college, for the reasons your just said. Bigger and more mature players. But at least in Div3, they're not as hockey smart, so he needs to keep his head on a swivel more, as alot just want to kill each other, especially many being bigger than others.

IIRC there used to be pre-season exhbition games between the U of A Golden Bears and the Edmonton WHL Junior team, and the Bears would win pretty easily.

Is Derek Ryan the only alumni of note from the CIS?
