I like the CC. Even little things where there is a translation error where its a word that sounds the same but its totally not what was said. So you feel better about yourself for a split second, HAHA, I caught an error that no one but me just saw. I' m so clever!. Smug. .......Then a split second later, oh ya I'm a piece of crap gotta go into work now.

I cast my vote for CC as well. I got used to it while watching the foreign stuff on Netflix, and just left it on for everything.

Because they are watching at work, and not working.

I dislike subtitles because I can't help but read them word-for-word. My eyes naturally gravitate there. I feel like I miss a lot of the performance of the actors by reading the lines instead of experiencing the movie.
My wife swears by subs. So it's a battle.

Star Wars made me change my opinion on subtitles. I could finally understand the names and names of planets…

I started using CC several years back because I got so tired of constantly playing with the volume between quiet dialogue, loud explosions, brutally bad sound mixes, and 'blow your ears out' commercials, on top of house noise (furnace on/off, etc) and various other things.
So much nicer.

Bad sound mixes are terrible. I have come around to using subs with age. I won't if it's something that is about the visual experience more than anything. Like I wouldn't watch the LOTR movies with subs.

I know 100% of the lines. I could watch it on mute and no subs.

The issue is that in movies actors are always ####ing whispering at eachother. Like that is a normal thing to do.

I try to make sure I don't know where my phone is before putting on a movie I want to watch. And that's pretty easy usually, because, hrmm, where is that thing anyway? Probably needs a charge...

That’s the biggest factor. The in vogue acting style is to mumble under their breath in a ‘naturalistic’ manner, rather than project when they read their lines. And for some reason directors indulge them. Just compare a movie or TV show from 15 years ago with today. Night and day.

I don’t like sub titles and I don’t like mumblers and I don’t waste my time on them - my goal is to relax and be entertained. Any movie produced since 2020 usually gets passed by, there are lots of old movies I haven’t seen yet.

I've been using subs since the mid-late 90s when I was a pre-teen watching on my parent's fancy ass 27 inch tube tv. My family used to make fun of me, until they eventually caught on to how useful it was and we left the setting on permanently.
Funny to see it catching on more now. I always thought of them as extremely useful and gave me way more understanding of the show. The only time I turn them off is during live broadcasts like news or sports where there is a delay. Then it becomes annoying to me.

If you’re watching movies through your tv speakers, you’re going to struggle hearing voices. Some TVs can process multi channel audio to some degree, have clear voice, Tru Audio, etc. to help as well.

My millennial generation sister always had them on. So now I like them on too.
