Once these players get some control on their careers they are likely to push back against this type of management and find opportunities where they can get a shot to be the #1C and then get paid accordingly.

The other thing I’ll add is around this time last year there was a lot of talk about a Necas trade. Stienberg was saying, often, that the Flames should be all over it.
What’s interesting to me about that is Stienberg is as close as it gets to the Flamrs from a media perspective. I believe a lot of what he has to say is with good reason. Now, that being said, I don’t think Conroy is sitting down with Stienberg and saying ‘we want Necas’ but I do believe he reiterates that, yes, we want a RHS C in a certain age group who can play as our 1 or 2C. There are not too many of those around at any given point in time.
Not saying it is true but it does seem possible.

FWIW I'm told LA is NOT on his no trade list.
So the correct answer is he simply refused to extend there.

Fully confirmed that deal is dead? Or was it more like he would need to think about it?

i'd say it's mostly dead as Holland turned around and signed Cody Ceci for 4 years. Classic Holland fumble.

Feels like things are waiting for one or two other things to happen. Just league wide overall. Not just the Flames. But I'm guessing Rasmus might be a thing folks are waiting on .

LA picked up Ceci and Doumelin right after, so it's deader than dead.
Interesting to speculate what 'socks off' would be... Turcotte, Ziemmer and a 26 first would be a nice bundle.

Maybe St Louis is the third team and not Vegas, just got to wait for the waiver to clear?

With St. Louis you also have all that smoke surrounding Kyrou. could make sense for both teams.

I think it will be St. Louis that will close that one out.

This Andersson situation can quickly become the first foul against Conroy as GM. It is a massive blunder if he can't recoup assets by giving the player all the leverage.

I don't think it is very surprising in 2025. I was in a masters program through a school in LA. A good chunk was online but I had to stay in LA for roughly 3 months over a 2 year period. It can be a very fun city to visit, I loved my first two weeks when I was in hotel. The driving was/is chaotic and the traffic is insane. Overtime the city does wear on you, regardless if you have money or not. It is just not for everyone. It is also insanely expensive and only getting worse. I would understand why he would not commit to 7-8 years there, I probably would not want to either if I was about to start raising a family. I know people who have worked there and most were happy to leave after a few years.
On a anecdotal note, I have a family member who grew up with and is good friends with a NHLer from Calgary. I know for a fact LA is on this players no trade list. I can see why other markets in the NHL may be surpassing LA as the proffered destinations.

He didn't give him leverage, he has leverage. If the proposed deal was dependent on him agreeing to an extension first, it's his right to say no.

There was a post linking Dreger saying that the LA trade was all picks, no players.

He did so by sending the message to the room about culture over doing whats best for the team and holding on to him until he could do what he wants.
But the important thing is they will be buddied 20 years from now according to Conroy.

The leverage Andersson has was in exchange for the extremely team friendly deal he signed. Flames didn't EFF it up, Rasmus is just partypooping on the basement fans .
