I try to build my trades on the lower end so I'd say 1 for 1, Necas for Andersson. Both teams take the risk of no extension while both players make sense for each teams vacancies.
There's an opportunity in Calgary for Necas to absolutely eran a top 6 center role . And if he doesn't and doesn't like the situation, he's just a deadline flip.
It is a trade though contingent on other dominoes falling . Flames landing Byram and Ehlers signing in Colorado.
How come Byram is factored in? Assume this is a Flames look to improve now type scenario?
Feels like the Flames were trying to get a young LD, and went back to Hanley after missing on Hague and Miller.
Hanley's reliable depth... The Flames don't want one of their young guys sitting regularly in that 7th spot -- and Miromanov is too inconsistent -- so they will always have a guy like Hanley (Stone before him) on the team.
Necas wants to be a C. He’d get that shot here. And could be flipped. I mean, almost certainly would be but the overall return won’t be worse than sending Ras to Vegas lol

So it must have been multiple first round picks if it was a “whopper” of a deal. Meg e something like 2026 1st round pick + 2027 1st round pick + 2026 2nd round pick?
I feel Dreger's "whopper" is not being used in the context it was originally stated. Listening to the original audio, what seems to be implied is that he is a sharing a "whopper of a story, in the LA Kings making a push for Andersson". Not that the deal was in fact " a whopper" as was shared on twitter afterwards?

Dreger was on Barn Burner and outright stated the Flames had "Phenomenal offers. Phenomenal." and "One from LA that would blow your socks off".

You are correct that did seem to be the original context when it was said but none of us are interested in letting facts get in the way of a good story. I'm sure it changed as time went on and the flames got a whopper offer
Keeping the roster rounded I suppose. You don't lose a top 4 d man before you land one and address a supplementary need (LD vs RD).
Yeah, I could see that.
Not too sure what the acquisition cost would be. In either case picks shouldn’t be included, unless they would be relatively easy to recoup (3rd round or later). I’ve gloated Zary for Byram. Not because I don’t like Zary but because the Flames have too many LHS forwards in the org and something is going to have to give, eventually. Even if you move Coleman. I’d consider Farabee too but the Flames just acquired him so I’d be surprised if the flipped him so quickly.
Out:
Anderson
(Whatever it ends up being for Byram)
Pops, Mews and say.....2026 2nd
In:
Necas
Byram
Both signed to 6 year deals at whatever they end being. Probably on the high side of 6-8 million a year.
I think Necas would want 9-11M per season. Byram 7-9M
Necas also refused to go to Winnipeg and Buffalo when there was talk of an Ehlers swap with the Canes a couple years ago. Not sure what Buffalo was offering but he wouldn’t sign there. Doesn’t mean he says no to Calgary but I think it is tougher.
Bringing in those 2 players though it would be hard to not see this team as a playoff one vs a bottom 10/bubble team

Dreger just repeated it on BarnBurner he said:

- So where are the offers for him as a rental

Because as you guys talked about, it appears as though that's where he wants to go. This is a spicy one, and it probably isn't going to get less spicy, unless he relents, and says I'll go, but unless it's a perfect scenario he's not going, because he's not going to extend with any of the teams we talked about.

Sounds like communicating to Ras and co via the media, hopefully put some pressure on him to relent before it completely sours. Dregs is related to one of the staff right?
