It’s not just about the media. It’s your everyday life. Every restaurant, every bar, every charity event, every casual interaction, people will know. You’re not just some guy on the team, you’re the guy accused of gang rape.

In the States, especially in a market where hockey barely registers, you can at least blend in. In Canada, especially in Edmonton, there’s nowhere to hide. Everyone talks and it won’t matter if you’re found not guilty or whatever. That label is going to follow you.

If you're McDavid, how do you possibly choose to stay there?

Its worse then that, even going back to before they drafted Pissy, the Oilers have literally gotten nothing beyond their first round high draft picks.


IE Nurse (7th), Pissy (3) McJesus (1) The only 2nd round pick that has stuck with the Oilers is Skinner in 2017.


Even the players that did manage to survive Edmonton McLeod, Holloway, Boing Boing, had to go to other teams to save their development.


Literall for the last about 15 or more years, when the Oilers went up to the podium to draft anything from halfway down the first round and all, they should have said "No Thank You". It would have been a better result for them.

Mavi diary - Day 1

Dear Diary. Went for a walk through the beautiful river valley. It smelled of urine. Lenard the dog refused to leave the pathway. Leon came over later to help me paint the ceiling in the basketball court. I don’t know why people have to use an arc on their shots. We had a hot tub and Leon wore his engagement ball cap. He’s quite a handsome fellow although I wish he would stop reverse checking my wife in the kitchen. She’s fine btw thanks for asking. So clever; she texted Leon before the hot tub and told him no ketchup. It scares me and frankly it’s too much colour. Got a call from Stan and Knobby today. They told me that they have cleared all of the salary space for me a year early. Those guys! So great. I was going to thank stu skinner for the idea of the video doorbell (honestly, it’s done more to keep Ron Maclean away than any PR person) but I don’t want him to think that we are going to be grateful for anything. If he was a better goalie he would have suggested that much sooner, and it would have stopped Katzie from dropping by to show off his new waterproof couch. Knobby promised me lots more ice time next season so I’m happy about that. I spoke with BooBoo yesterday. He said that 4 years was the shortest contract offer that he could get. He was happy to get more money than Darnell, and he didn’t have to fight Leon or date Darnell’s sister either! Win win I guess.

I’m sure looking forward to seeing all of the new stars that Stan promised me when he flew to Toronto (home of the leafs!). Note to file: I have to remember to put that picture of me and Austin into my hope chest! It will be great to see Connor (no relation to me haha!) Brown, wormy Perry, arvidsson, and Klingsberg again! Great teammates all!

Well Diary, signing off here as I have to grab a few beers at the corner store. It normally takes a few hours to get everyone’s pictures taken. I try to look glum and sad but it has yet to deter anyone.

Will I sign tomorrow? I told everyone it was win win win and I’d be happy to re-sign. I can’t wait to see all of the help that Stan got me today!

They should have waited to announce the Bouchard signing. I doubt too many goalies are excited about playing behind him for 20+ minutes a night for the next 4 years.

How do you commit to even a shorter contract if you're McDavid? There's no source for internal growth next year, you lose some of your most tenacious forwards in Perry and Kane. Hate him all you want but Perry was instrumental for a lot of the Ws the Oilers got this year.

I don't see any world where they've improved, or that they can improve with their remaining cap.

Best case scenario McDavid tells them he wants to see how the year goes, they miss or barely scrape into the playoffs and 1st round exit, lose McDavid for nothing at all.
