Literally this. I’m sorry but he is expendable if it means a pick or proper centre without the injury history…

Coronato is a right shot which we have very few and locked up long term. Zary is injury prone so it is a no brainer of who we stick with if it came down to a choice between the 2

A source tells San Jose Hockey Now that the New York Islanders asked for the No. 2 pick for Noah Dobson, and were rejected by the San Jose Sharks.

I like Barzal, but injuries, contract and age play a part here. 6 years over $9 mil and an age you will not want to re-sign him at. 34 is just a bad age to become a UFA.

If Utah is in on Barzal, they should consider a top 10 protected 1st next year.

Rightly so. SJ is competing in 4 years at best. Gotta have a young controllable asset at a discount.

Trading Zary to get a legit #1C would be worth it.

Also, trading Zary became more viable when the rumour came out that they are not agreeing on his next contract. But I think Zary has high value, which means including him in a trade makes the trade more costly for the Flames and more likely that the other team say yes.

But, I would rather keep Zary and see if he can turn into a top 6 C.

Really makes it extra unlikely the flames get a pick in the top 7 or 8 if the isles are desperate for it and have better picks. Wish the ekblad domino would fall as after that it feels like rasmus will be the main option left for teams looking to improve their blueline

Does seem like it. If Dobson can’t get it done then it’s probably a really tough trade to make.

None of that is a secret, I think Zary's value is at an all time low right now.

Do I think either will be traded? No. But if a 1C comes along I'll pack their ####.

Silly to think either is in the mix to get the flames a top center but also when the Flames have Coronato a 7 year deal it took him off the table for trades. Calgary just had multiple free agents tell them NO when they wanted to keep the team together. It all started when our American superstars left so now we get a potential American star player who signs for 7 years. He is going nowhere anytime soon

I can’t remember who it was but someone did say the Sharks weren’t nearly as interested in him as Rasmus and Ekblad

People use the phrase 'injury prone' WAY too often and quickly.

Injuries are random. Two injuries to the same player is simply normal random variance. Even half a dozen injuries, over a multi-year period, is simply random. It does not mean the are more likely than other players to get injured again.

Of course, there ARE some people for whom it applies, but they are pretty rare. Multiple concussions is a very big concern. Ongoing back problems is a big concern. Two unrelated injuries do not make someone injury prone.

If the Islanders want Hagens so bad why get some assets by swapping picks with the Sharks or Hawks?
