The reasonable conclusion one can draw from this contract is that Frederic knows that there are corpses buried under McDavid's basketball court and he has the evidence to prove it.

This is a valid argument... when the player is 22-23. And has upside.
Frederic is a bottom 6er who will be 31 in 4 years. When is the last time a bottom 6er filled out an 8-year contract?

Even the most hardcore Oilers fan at my office thought this signing was 4 years too long...
Though he also couldn't resist "pointing out" that Frederic has more points than Bennett did before he re-signed with the Panthers and turned into a Conn Smythe winner, AND, maybe Frederic plays on McDavid or Draisaitl's wing next season...

I would have been less shocked if they gave this deal to Kaspari Kapanen.
Frederic was pretty much invisible when he was on the ice in the playoffs.
I hope they loose Bouchard now.
