People that do this are the worst, especially those entering a traffic circle and instead of looking prior to the yield and seeing it's all clear, they F'ing stop anyways.

Looooooooooooooch

Come to complete stop just before the intersection.
Creep towards the intersection.
Stop again just before turning.
Slowly accelerate and complete your turn.

Corsi is right that it is primarily pot-bellied dickwhistles on straight-piped Harley Fatboys who just can't help but crack the throttle wide open every time they pass a group of people on the sidewalk, on a patio, etc. Yeah, we get it, it's the only way you can maintain an erection without drugs. Just take the blue pills and put a muffler on your stupid bike.

This is the bigger problem -- not modified exhaust systems on cars IMHO -- and one I am not entirely confident can be handled by this enforcement. Being a sane person, I have never driven or owned a vehicle with an obnoxious crackle tune applied, so I don't know how much throttle is needed to get the thing to start dumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust cycle which causes the POP POP POP on engine decel. To that end, I don't know if it'll be enforceable for them to get one of these sh-theels to rev their vehicle so high during the test that one could make the argument that the parameters for evaluation are subjective and unreasonable. But as a downtown dweller with a loud-from-the-factory car, I am not worried one iota about getting ensnared by it. It turns out you can drive a loud car rather quietly if you operate it without the goal of making everyone's ears bleed as you do so. You can still have more than a bit of fun without being a bad neighbour.

No, it f-cking is not. These people need to hand over their driver's licenses, they're getting the scissors. They can take the bus.

Yep and always give a person a courtesy wave to be nice at fourway stops even if you stopped first. It just the polite thing to do.

If they're doing it to be a-holes I'm fine with it because I respect a good a-hole move.
If they think they're cool doing it, then I want to beat the fk out of them because there's nothing cool about it.
Problem is, as they drive by you can't know their motivation. My guess it's 20% a-holes and 80% nerds who think they're cool.

Nah, you know it's more complex than this. A good arsehole move should have an element of cleverness to it. It's why House's antics in the eponymous television show elicited anything from a sensible chuckle to a guffaw of laughter, because there was an element of cleverness to the -- what we would all largely recognize as -- dickish behaviour that made it entertaining.
I would guess 100% of them started doing it because they thought they were cool. The ones who do it now to be arseholes have only pivoted to that as their motivation after the fact, which still makes it quite uncool.

No - I do have a modified exhaust on my Audi, but it has resonators and although it's maybe a bit louder than stock it's not noticeably (i.e. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLjos38vpFw). My porsche is stock without the factory sport exhaust and the note is very subdued, frankly it could use a little more growl if it had my preference. But I don't like my car to be loud.

Hard disagree. Best a-hole moves are the simple ones. I mean, I'm really proud of how I can stare straight ahead looking innocent while I whistle at dogs in cars beside me to get them riled up when we're both stopped at an intersection. Nothing clever about it, but a good ole' fashioned a-hole move nonetheless.
Honestly, it sounds like you're gatekeeping a-hole behaviour, which in and of itself is a bit of an a-hole move. To be consistent, I have no choice but to respect your take while disagreeing with it.

Stuff like that is fine and not really what's going to get caught up in this, I wouldn't think. Interesting they are not just going by decibel levels, which probably gives them a bit more leeway to ticket what they are trying to reduce.
Quote:
Peace officers assess objectionable vehicle noise utilizing various factors, including technological measurements, data and information such as location, time of day, volume and duration of the objectionable noise. Officers use roadside testing and measurement devices to measure decibel levels, but decibel readings are not the sole determinant for issuing a ticket. Drivers are responsible for all noise generated by their vehicles.

I'm with TD on this. If you make your vehicle loud as an a-hole move, that's only good for the time or times you engage it for that purpose, such as driving by a group of abortion protesters. Like, if you can explain to someone after and they laugh, it's an all good a-hole move. If it is loud all the time it loses that justification, and then you are just an a-hole.
Take your dog whistling. Great move, but if you glanced over and saw an old lady coming home from the hospital in a neck brace and make the dog go ape####, that's an a-hole move. If it's a normal dude with a soda that he spills in the chaos, that's funny. You have agency over how to deploy it, and can hold back when appropriate. If your vehicle just made a dog whistle noise all the time, that'd be dickish.

Twice in the past week I've approached a 4 way stop very close to the same time as another vehicle. When that happens I puposely go a bit slower then give a definite stop after they do, just to be 100% they stopped first and there is no grey area.
Both times these idiots tried to wave me through. You stopped first, just go, f'ing dummy.

Normally I go this route. The odd time I could tell they were a struggler so I hit the stop line at ~4 km/hr and stop on a dime and then go quickly again.

This is perfect, because as you are both stuck going nowhere I can blast right through on my bike and offend society at large.

Physics says "hi". It also says "splat".
The number of scooter twerps I see flying through intersections when opposing traffic has a green is too damn high. Still remember the one guy in front of my building getting creamed on one by a lady in an Acura who had a green and he flew out in front of her.

I also come to almost exaggerated full stops on my bike so that I’m not a ###### out there.

Hard agree. I think in my head when I wrote that I was just picturing motorcycle guys that rev at you when you're on a patio on 17th or wherever. Total do0sh move if they think they're cool; if they're being an a-hole, then funny.
Those motorbikes it seems like you can pick and choose when to rev it to obnoxious levels, so you're right that the a-hole humour comes from the selective deployment.
But yeah just all loud all the time? OMG eff right off. Especially if you live close to me.
