Can we please decide on a self check out scan beep volume that’s not so silent I don’t even know if I scanned my item and so loud it hurts my ears? Because those appear to be the only two options at every place I go to.

I rolled my eyes so hard at this that I think I twisted something. Is there such a thing as a sprained eyeball?

I think I would have to know which picket lines. I don’t think I can just support all strikes without any context.

Then again damn the man. Workers of the world unite. Eat the rich.

I don't need more anxiety, thank you very much.

Totally related, I remember I held a hefty position in DirectCash (the owner of many of those ATMs) before they were sold or acquired or whatever. It paid something like a 10 or 11% dividend, and I'm not even a dividend guy. I actually forgot about that til now. ####ing people over just for withdrawing their money is a license to print money.

When ATMs first came out I thought I would give it a try and asked for $100. It gave me $400 which never came out of my account. I made the mistake of telling my wife and she spent the next 6 months interrogating me where the $400 went - the REAL GEAR GRINDER.
I was working deep in southern Saskatchewan, a short drive to the border with pockets full of $2 bills.

Is no one able to make a right turn without almost coming to a complete stop anymore?

These days I’m lucky if they even look right once to see me crossing the road… while not stopping.

Plenty. In fact I see a lot that wait a painfully long time watching oncoming traffic in the distance prior to making their turn.

Not sure I follow - you have to come to a complete stop at red light or stop sign?

This is potentially a whole bunch of grease for grinding gears, hopefully it makes a difference.

The City of Calgary’s Traffic Safety Team is stepping up enforcement this month to reduce vehicle noise and improve quality of life in neighbourhoods across the city. Drivers operating excessively loud or modified vehicles can expect increased monitoring and fines.

Quote:
What is a noisy vehicle?
Examples of common noisy vehicle violations include:
  • Noisy exhausts and mufflers
  • Excessive engine revving
  • Squealing tires
  • Roaring or explosive sounds
  • Loud stereos
  • Amplification equipment
  • Recurring or prolonged vehicle alarms
Additionally, modifying a vehicle to increase noise, such as installing aftermarket mufflers or altering exhaust systems, is a violation of the Traffic Safety Act and subject to penalties.

Quote:
Fines include:
  • $270 for operating a vehicle over the legal noise limit
  • $300 for failing to comply during a noise level test

JFC, it's almost exclusively motorcycles, the cars are fine. Frankly the loudest cars probably aren't even the modded ones.

BTW, you can't make right turns in Europe at red lights.

I dunno, poppy blow off valves are ridiculously loud, fart can mufflers, or busted ass rust buckets with perforated exhaust systems. Seems it would be discriminatory to enforce based on vehicle type and not noise, no?

Wait, you have a noisy car, don't you...

Trying to remember, does that go for Montreal also? Quebec City?

It is mostly bikes but the annoying pops and crackles need to end. It’s not as bad as it was a couple of years ago, maybe because they wrecked their engines, but it still makes me want to murder when they go by my place.

Right turn at at a green light when the crosswalk is obviously clear.

Best practice is to come to a complete stop to make sure the intersection is clear even when the light is green, (regardless of whether I am going straight or turning).

No, best practice is to drive in a predictable fashion and according to applicable laws. Stopping at a green light is struggler territory. Slowing down before a turn to check for pedestrians is fine but a complete stop shows a lack of confidence and capability.
