Iran has retaliated: https://www.axios.com/2025/06/23/ira...ump-israel-war
Quote:
Iran launched multiple missiles against American military bases in the Middle East on Monday in retaliation for the U.S. strike on its nuclear facilities this weekend.
At least 10 missiles were launched toward Qatar and at least one missile launched toward Iraq, according to an Israeli official.

I’m not sure why people are saying stuff like this a half a world away. The US is not going to be putting boots on the ground. They have the strongest standing military on earth by every single metric, so even in some hypothetical where they did they would not need a draft. The only people who will be effected by this live in the middle east.
Iran did the same thing after Soleimani was killed when they fired ballistic missiles at 2 American bases in Iraq. It is purely for their own propaganda for their population. I doubt this sets off much of a reaction, if this was their big response than this is a good sign that this current situation is winding down.

yeah, zero chance of US boots on the ground in Iran.
Iran has zero ability to force project - all they can do is lob missiles and drones, which they will eventually run out of.

I wouldn't say zero chance. Never underestimate the stupidity of Donald Trump, and the financial motivations of the military industrial complex and their ability to influence said stupid man to make themselves more richer.

Normally yes, but but our people have done a deep dive on this exact scenario and the ratings on FoxNews are off the charts.

I mean yes you never know what will happen especially in such a powder keg of a region. I do feel optimistic that if this was Iran's big response than this will be winding down.

If there are no casualties, the U.S. would be wise not to retaliate back. Like with the Soleimani assassination, Iran launched missile attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq after as a token response to show strength, but avoided casualties. They even gave the U.S. advanced notification to avoid casualties and further escalation. Hopefully that is the case here as well, but the fact it was on Bahrain and Qatar this time isn't a good sign.

I'm not really ok with anyone having nukes. But I'm also probably more OK with every nation having nukes.
We seem to be ok with USA, France, UK, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and Israel having nukes.
there is a big leap in logic to Iran possessing nukes to Iran using nukes. In my opinion, that logic doesn't follow.

To me, this is the same logic as “more guns = less shootings”.
I don’t think the leap is as far as you would like to believe between Iran possessing nukes and Iran using nukes.
I think they intended to use them, before their doomsday clock reached 0. I mean, they have stated that they will wipe Israel off the planet (paraphrasing).

Seems like Iran informed the US and Qatar beforehand as well. A major escalation would have been closing the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has been heavily depleted over the past week and a half, at this point the IRGC knows they are pinned against a wall. They are only able to launch 20-30 missles at most towards Israel. Their launchers have been heavily degraded and while being able to inflict damage towards Israel it has been far less than people had predicted. If they decide to negotiate now they can preserve their government.
From a military sense Iran got completed exposed. Through Mossad’s opening operation to Iran’s complete inability to defend their airspace. As discussed, their proxies showed zero willingness or ability to participate in this round of fighting. It is still unknown who outside the Ayatollah is now calling the main shots, but whoever is if they want to stay in power there is only one option left. This is effectively a military check mate.
Bibi will definitely use this to cement his power in the next election, Mossad is really who should be getting credit and not a politician. Decades of planning went into what has unfolded over the past week. Regardless, I hope that is the end of this. My fiancé’s coworker is Iranian and has been a mess since she has not been able to contact family. I hope for her sake this is over.

If no one is dead this would be a good time to de-escalate. But it's Trump.

Mutually Assured Destruction is still the overriding factor; and 70 years of nuclear weapons has resulted in its use twice, by the USA; so perhaps we are looking at the wrong actor?
Soviets and Americans hated each other. They weren't used. Pakistan and India loath each other, they haven't been used. To say that the Iranian regime is more likely to use them is without any logical basis.
the "wiping off the map" trope is used too much in this conversation. but in reality, it's a great way to stir up some nationalist/ethnic/religious contempt when needed.
Is it a risk? sure. But, i truly think more people are dead without nukes than with them. I couldn't imagine the scale of dead between India/Pakistan if neither party had nuclear weapons.

You may be right. Hopefully we never have to find out. But, you did say a lot without saying it with the bolded.
