OK, checking on that it is actually a couple years old:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SelfAwarewo...atingly_arent/

But it is from this poster who claims:
Quote:
Close, I have a very conservative friend who wants to discuss politics often, often by linking reddit threads and going from there. I sometimes post his most ridiculous takes so that the internet can tear him a new one.
I use some of the smarter and more nuanced replies when I try to re-engage him with previous discussions. Problem is the right-wing outrage/misinformation machine moves so fast it's like he's got a memory of a gold fish. There's a reason the most prominent voices on the right generate daily content as opposed to the left where the best content creators post at best monthly.
It's quite frustrating he won't even remember saying this stuff or the insanity of the points he makes. Kinda surreal to see the post on selfawarewolves though. I think I'm gonna stop posting his hot takes.

https://old.reddit.com/r/SelfAwarewo...arent/im438hw/

So it seems it is something his friend said. True words or not, it illustrates the depth of the dumb, because this is exactly the problem they run into when thy have to provide sources for their BS.

It's unverified, not misinformation.

Here's some garbage hearsay from a garbage website, verified by other garbage hearsay from the same garbage website.

It's proven garbage you can trust.

It’s not misinformation if you agree with the message !

Both the right and the left can agree on that

It's nice to see I gave you four some Christmas Joy. My mission is complete.

Fun that you couldn't take issue with the actual message, though. Which was the whole point, but keep up the high fives, 'tis the season.

Don’t you know it’s only the lefties who make this place toxic by piling on? They’re just contributing salient discourse.

More misinformation.

Another check mark!

Gold star for originality.

A friend wants me to listen to the “mind bending” Telepathy Tapes Podcast.

One minute of “research” is all I needed to raise red flags.

The Telepathy Tapes Prove We All Want to Believe

The Telepathy Tapes follows a reporter’s voyage from paper-thin skepticism to absolute credulity, and it becomes a cautionary tale for journalists who choose to investigate extraordinary claims. They may see themselves as skeptics but the urge to believe is hard to resist.

In 1907, psychologist Oskar Pfungst demonstrated that the horse was not actually performing these mental tasks, but was watching the reactions of his trainer. The horse was responding directly to involuntary cues in the body language of the human trainer, who was entirely unaware that he was providing such cues.
I think the more interesting question is why do people want to believe so badly in pseudoscience, paranormal and supernatural powers?

I’m not immune, but much better at detecting BS now.

I think because they then understand something that baffled them before. "oh! That's what it is!" We crave answers. It doesn't matter if they are correct or not, as long as it fills the need. The simpler the explanation, the more people buy in. "Magic" is about as simple as it gets. "Oh, it was magic!"

Just to confirm, the right would like misinformation to now mean spreading information that may or may not be true, instead of just false/inaccurate?

Yeah, that should help them.

Tim Caulfield, for me became one of the most preeminent voices for reason and logic during the pandemic. Scientifically as well as it relates to just the current public discourse.

I'm not even sure how I discovered him. I think he just jumped out as a well spoken, intelligent voice in a sea of nonsense.

He deserves a much larger audience than he has.

Caulfield pops up occasionally in my podcasts. Jespersen has him on frequently.
