That backhand pass from the right side of the blue-line right onto the stick of a forward busting hard on the left side of the offensive blue-line was magic. Really loved Brodie here.
With that said, there isn't room in Calgary. Too many young kids need waivers this year - Solovyov I think improved and might make it, Kuznetsov is a first-time waiver eligible, as is Poirier (who might be the next Brodie!). Parekh is expected to make the squad, and Brzustewicz is pushing. Would have been fine with Brodie as a 7th otherwise, but the kids need to play.
It wouldn't surprise me if he signs another deal somewhere after this. While I do think that Brodie is close to the end here, I don't think he is quite cooked yet. In the right system with the right partner, I think he can be a reliable defencemen on the bottom pairing. I guess we will see.

The Flames already have Bean and Miromanov as the 7th/8th D.
If Brodie isn't done then I think he'd sign on as a replacement level player for a tanking team. Maybe the Penguins if they start moving out all of their vets? If Crosby leaves then I bet Malkin, Letang, and Karlsson are all asking for trades immediately after.

I would. The money is lower, sure, but you can play a slower, more methodical, less physical game for longer and you get to play fewer games and travel across some of the nicest parts of Europe? Sounds awesome.

They will get minimal cap savings by buying him out.

Probably not a real option for him. I mean he has a 7/8 year old kid and his wife has health issues she has to manage IIRC... probably not the ideal situation to uproot your family to shuffle around Europe playing for peanuts for a few years.

Always liked Brodie. He's had a good career. Probably worth a few million. Would like to see him signed for a day and retire in Calgary. If he wants to stay involved, he can always move into coaching or management.

They have tons of cap room. They are doing this to create another roster spot.

Put into a place, like Chicago, where the defence is a gong show, is not a situation Brodie is likely to thrive in.
Even after losing a step, I could see Brodie being effective in a complimentary role in a good team, but not leading a bad team.

Well hey, I fully admit that back when Brodie was with the Flames and Tanev was with the Canucks, I was of the opinion that Brodie was the better defenceman... how wrong I was...

He probably was for a season or two, especially paired with Gio. But he peaked quickly and disappeared just as quickly, almost the opposite of Gio.

Apparently, they are doing this to help Brodie out as well. Things haven't gone well for him in Chicago, and this allows Brodie the ability to move on elsewhere and try his luck. I can't remember where I read that (was it on the first post of this thread?).
Hopefully he finds a good fit and winds down his career there.

Yes. Not only that they paired him with Hamonic. The team obsessing over the left shot right shot pairings.

Brodie definitely had some "hold my beer" moments with the flames. He was great at times, and then had some moments that caused us to use the palm of our hand as a facemask.
Hopefully he can find a team looking to win the Gavin Mckenna sweepstakes and get his 38 games to hit 1000.

Playing in Europe would be an awesome way to wind down a career. I wouldn't even bother with the higher tier countries, I would go somewhere like Italy or France and dunk on everyone while enjoying the European lifestyle.

I think he can enjoy the European Lifestyle with his 54 million in career earnings without playing in a D league

Brodie's wife has MS unfotunately, which is one reason why he wanted to go back to the Toronto area area when he left here, so that his wife could be near family for extra help. I can't see him signing in Europe. Not sure how far along his wife symptoms are, either.
