The more I see of Cootes the more I think they'll even try and trade up to make sure they land him. Like if they know MTL will take him they'll pony up and find a partner above MTL.

That is where the rubber meets the road. There is definitely an organization fit to trade between the Sharks and Flames, which is often tricky between division rivals. However, the only way the Sharks are coming out of this rebuild is if they address their immediate NHL D roster.

Based on some comments in r/SanJoseSharks - The Sharks need 2 top pair D, a second pair RD, and RD prospects, word on the street is that top pair RD is one of the hardest positions to fill in the league right now.
The Flames need a top line C, which is one of the most important and hardest positions to fill all the time.

If I am the Flames GM, all of my trade chips are pointed at landing a young top line C. If anyone calls asking for my biggest trade chip, the answer is "sure, it'll cost you the thing that I need".

If the Sharks miss on Ekblad and Andersson then they are going to have a much harder time trying to rebuild their D group and are likely headed toward another basement finish if they cannot dramatically upgrade their D group from what it is now.

They're close but I think that RHS is a ticked box over Reschny.

And that Cootes kid has some wild footwork.

Been saying for a while if we walk out of the first with Cootes and Zonnon i would be pretty happy.

However if Anderrson nets another first Cootes, Zonnon and any of Gastrin,Wang Reid,Reschny would be great as well.
Just dont see getting into the top ten but would pay quite a bit if Obrien was there on the outskirts.

I wonder if Flames and Sabres could do something around Farabee and Samuelsson.

Farabee is 25, has 3 x $5 left and is from Syracuse NY

Samuelsson is 25, has 5 x $4.3 left

Flames could use another defensive LH shot dman and have too many wingers.

Samuelsson fell out of favour in Buffalo last year and they have too many LH dmen

Sabres probably wouldn't mind getting a guy who is from the area (they like their local kids) and does have 20 goal and 40 point pedigree.

I would take Cootes over Reschny, Cootes is the better skater, has the better motor, has the better intangibes. Give Cootes some players to play with and he will produce. I think they have similar ceilings, Cootes has the higher floor. I also think Cootes is the type of player you win with.

I thought the problem was that Samuelsson keeps getting hurt? He's played 55, 41, 62 games in the last 3 years.

The only LD on the Sabres I would really go after is Byram.. but not with any of the trade chips that we need to try to get a C.

I mean Cootes did just out produce Reschny at the U-18's. I also think Cootes will stick at center at the NHL level and I have my doubts about Reschny being able to stick at center because of his skating.

I just don't think there is a lot of seperating them offensively.

Bingo. This is exactly the approach Conroy should be working on. Mews I would include too if it gets what we need.

I think there'd be appeal if we didn't already have Pospisil and likely Lomberg.

I agree I just don't see the need to add Jeannot unless both of them are on the way out (which I suppose they could be?)

If Popisil holds as much value as some say and we can move him for a good return, this would be a good replacement. Need some mean to play Edmonton as the playoffs showed.

If SJ is indeed willing to move Misa, I assume many teams would line up to offer younger dmen with years if control.

Anderson would certainly make them better now, but they are some years away from being a good team. By the time they are good, Anderson is likely regressing.

I just don't think there is a lot of seperating them offensively.

Good article comparing them. I think the Flames need to swing talent over higher floor guy imo but watch them pick a LW lol

Anderson would certainly make them better now, but they are some years away from being a good team. By the time they are good, Anderson is likely regressing.

Or they trade down and get multiple assets and flip some of those for Andersson. They are just going to make the pick though

It would be disappointing after what Conroy say about not just signing players to add bodies. Jeannot strikes me as just that type of player. As someone else mentioned, it might make sense if we were trading Pospisil and Jeannot was coming in cheap or something. We don't need more muckers and grinders though.
