I asked ChatGPT to write a song about the Oilers losing the cup to "Cats in the Cradle"
“Cups in the Cradle” (Oilers Edition) 🎶
To the tune of “Cats in the Cradle”
🎵
My boy turned on the TV just the other night
Said, “Dad, the Oilers gonna win this fight?”
I said, “Sure, son, we’ve got McDavid,
The Cup’s comin’ home, yeah, Lord be praised!”
But the first game slipped and the second was tight,
By Game 3 I was stressin’ every night.
They fought real hard, gave all they had—
Then the Panthers scored, and it looked real bad.
And the Cup’s in the cradle and the Panthers roar,
Oilers fans cryin’ on the kitchen floor.
"When you comin’ home with the Cup?" we plead,
But they just skate by with lightning speed.
They just skate by with lightning speed.”
🎵
McDavid skated like a man possessed,
But the puck just bounced like it had a vendetta, I guess.
Draisaitl tried, Nurse gave his soul,
But Bobrovsky stood tall in that cursed goal.
We had the power plays, we had the shots—
But every dang bounce went to the Cats’ side, not ours.
And the Cup’s in the cradle and the dream’s on ice,
The champagne’s warm and the hats ain’t nice.
“When’s next year?” we whisper through the tears,
'Cause we’ve been waitin’ like this for 30 years.
We’ve been waitin’ like this for 30 years.”
🎵
Now my son’s grown up, got a kid of his own,
He said, “Dad, the Oilers curse is still not gone.”
I said, “Yeah, son, but hope’s a wild old flame—
Next year, for sure, we’ll win that game!”
But the puck still slips and the net stays dry,
We just watch that Cup as it waves goodbye.
And the Cup’s in the cradle and the Leafs still moan,
All of Canada cries in a hockey tone.
“When you bring it home?” they ask and sigh,
And we all just laugh, then we kinda cry.
Yeah, we all just laugh... and then kinda cry.

Own up to your nonsesne. Posts like that is why I have zero respect for you as a wanna be insider and a person. It's absolutely disgusting then and now with hindsight. Apologize to the forum and the Gaudreau family for spreading that crap. Guy Gaudreau, the Gaudreau family, Meredith Gaudreau and her family have no idea you exist and you were acting like you sat down for Sunday dinners with them.

Thanks for the great season Cp , Thanks to the Panthers for 2 years straight handling the Oilers. We will see you in September ( matey draft day) . The off-season here gets little to grandpa on face book. We are celebrating a Oilers lost and Gaudreau not signing here after he's already dead and gone is still a arguing point to High
Jack the thread. #### me be better . Oilers lose celebrate that only. We will see you possibly draft day if something majour happens or we can talk pc,console or in the video game thread . Be better and have an amazing summer!

I'll love the Panthers forever for saving us from an unthinkable timeline, I might have screamed louder last year when the clock hit zero but this one was more enjoyable.
Waiting by the mailbox for my Panthers shirt now, going to be a great summer.

Listening to 32 thoughts today Friedman brought up again how the Oilers team felt like they broke the Flames when they beat them in 2022 and that team was essentially dismantled.
He said the rivalry and hatred between the Oilers and Tkachuk has remained and he doesn’t like them and they don’t like him. He said the hatred and rivalry between Tkachuk and the Oilers organization is very real

It's just an interesting wrinkle to this.
What happens if the Flames win that series? Perhaps Tkachuk and Johnny are still here. I don't know if that team wins a cup, but there is no doubt that series altered things.
But on the other hand it caused Tkachuk to be traded to the team that now McDavid can't beat.
The reaction from the Oilers last year was very different. They seemed to come out of that series with confidence, having won 3 straight, that they could beat them if given another crack.
This year their reaction was more defeatist. They seemed broken.

Yup, I've thought of this a lot too. It was always assumed (maybe hoped?) that Chucky and Johnny hated the Oilers like we do. We saw the numerous clashes Chucky would get into whenever playing them and also had examples for Johnny like when he boo'd the Oilers logo while walking by their locker room.
No doubt in my mind that without Chucky and Benny, the Panthers don't beat the Oilers. Who knows though what that parallel universe looks like if all 3 were still playing for the Flames today.

I think the Flames still would be a little weak down the middle to get a cup. Bennett is a PO animal so that helps, but they wouldn't have a top end centre. Kadri and Bennett are kind of the same type of player. And I don't think either Monahan or Lindholm (assuming one of them is still here) is the guy to get it done.

Imagine how bad the beating would have been if Tkachuk wasn't skating on basically one leg.

So in other words, Tkachuk is a really good dude.
