Pronger wasn't quite the same ilk. Bure? I'm sure there will be a person or two someone will name but star players tend to stay in place at their primes IMO. Imagine the craziness if he would demand a trade after signing? The sky would fall.

A 3-4 year deal? Why would he ever do that?
They said that about Marner.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks these players like the nba at the Olympics when LeBron needed to create a super team discussed it at the 4 nations to team up.

Cap space will be available they can pick their destination that isn’t a Canadian market.

Marner signs for 4. McDavid 3. UFA same year as Matthews.

While a good point, he'd also be on the wrong side of 30 and that could lower his wage, especially to a new team?

Cap could go up, McDavid's production could go down? That'd be a real risk.

If he was going to be 25 or whatever my answer would be totally different, but at 33? With his mileage? I think I'd take Edmonton's money.

Besides, if his production declines enough maybe Edmonton's angry villagers will burn his wife's restaurant down and he can collect the insurance on top of it! Thats wins all around!

I hope McDavid leaves Edmonton. The fans are throwing him under the bus for the loss.

They don't deserve him.

Nothing ado with McDavid, but I did love that the Florida fans threw a Beach Ball on the ice at Skinner.

That was funny.

I still wouldn't like McDavid even if he were on pretty much any other team.
Permanently off-putting, largely due to prolonged Oiler.

If McDavid isn't ready to leave but is also smart (that's up for debate), he'd sign a short extension of 2-3 years. The oilers window will be closed in a few years as the core ages out and it will be a nasty, horrible time for whoever is still signed there with how they've purged their futures for a decade. He would be wise to only stay for the short term, or get ahead of the curve and move on to greener pastures next year.

Another season without a Ring, Kane investigation AND they give out a god awful contract... all within 24 hours.

Hahahahahahaha

I think he might have tried and the process may have killed him. That was...a lot of salt and tears.

McDavid would be crazy to sign for less than 7 or 8 years. If his play dips, or he gets hurt, he could be leaving a ton of money on the table.

The last three years, his point totals have gone from 153 to 132 to 100. If the slide continues, which is what tends to happen as players age, he will not do as well on his next contract.

If you took a two year contract to 30 for the full 19.1 you get to take advantage of the next year or two of rising cap and can probably still get a 8 x 16 from everyone.

So unless he is getting 8x18 today I’m not sure there’s much risk. He could blow out a knee and get another 8x12

He kind of waved at it with his stick rather ineffectively and then a linesman picked it up. I cant find the highlights which is a shame because that had me laughing!

BTW McDavid is -210 odds to stay with the Oilers. Do we trust Dissentower or do we trust Darren Dreger and Vegas?

I hope he leaves, but I have a hard time seeing it. He's seen the backlash Marner is getting already and I don't think McDavid could handle the hate he would get if he left.

If I'm his agent it's 2 or 8

3 or 4 years taking him into his early 30s is silly.

He should have signed for 5 last time and going 8 was stupid then. But you don't go medium term when you're 29

The only hate he would get from the inbreds up north.

He would be given a parade if he signed in Toronto.

It’s actually ####ty for flame fans if he stays he keeps Edmonton afloat. If he leaves he gives Treliving there biggest fa signing in nhl history.

Hopefully he goes to the Rangers.

If McDavid wants to get out of Edmonton but still feels loyal to the Oilers he should tell Katz to move the team to Atlanta.
