I heard the same thing about Gaudreau. I was told the reason for the change of heart, but I'm not repeating it.

And Foegele too. If not for some horrible decisions by the Oilers last summer (signing J. Skinner, Arvidsson, Henrique) this series might have been closer. Thankfully they lowballed Holloway/Broberg and squandered cap space with those July 1 signings.

The FAN960 saying they would've ignored the whole Stanley Cup thing if the oilers had won the cup on Monday is so petty and awesome.

Somebody in the Oilers organization should have played McDavid's famous "Dig in" shriek speech from last season.

Zero Shots on net by Draisaitl
2 shots on net by McDavid, with zero in the third period.

I think they forgot to dig in.

Patiently waiting for some reporter to do a story on how the Calgary Flames (connections) broke the Edmonton Oilers two years in a row...

Not even all the fake accolades thrust upon EDM by the delusional fanboys and girls at SN could turn them into something they were not.

Dominated in all areas of the game in the Finals. They were not even a close second.

Don’t double down on this lie again.

You really don’t want to play this game man because we all saw you. People who actually knew the situation called you out on lying, and then Meredith Gaudreau herself confirmed it at her husbands ####ing funeral.

Just seriously stop.

Those two a combined -8 in a cup clinching game. Perry also -4. Bouchard -4. At least Kane was 0 +/- lol.

Let him stay. The glitter twins will still be elite players, but they have peaked. Edmonton having so much money tied up in so few players will prevent them from building a deep team.

I think Connor re-signs too. He is very aware of his legacy and if he leaves Edmonton without winning a cup, it will be a huge dent in that legacy.

yep. Let rhem re-sign Bouchard to an 8 x 11 anchor too. They'll never be able to build a real team.

I am on the fence personally.

I used to feel exactly like this - the 'window' to win a cup with McDavid and Draisaitl will close with their new respective contracts kicking in, and carrying them into the 'post-apex' period of their careers. Oilers as an organization have not been competent at drafting and developing players, and have long suffered from being poorly managed.

With the rising cap, and having two consecutive Finals appearances, it has pushed me over to the fence. Trading him for assets might dumb-luck the Oilers into more success (unless they are draft picks - then no chance!).

The very best outcome in my opinion is the Oilers riding McDavid into the sunset next season, and allowing him to walk for free. I am just no longer sure what the second-best option is. If the cap would remain relatively flat (or just modest growth), I would 100% have the same opinion as yours.
