If a Parekh type prospect was offered for either Byram or Peterka they’d already be gone. Byram was just traded for Mittlestadt.

Could/would the bruins consider moving Pasta in a deal for 3rd overall and go full rebuild / tank next year ??

With their pick this year that could be 3 top prospects and a fast tracked new core

Cost control means what exactly? Like a team could sign him for less money? RFAs cost less now?

Why in the hell are we even talking about Peterka anyhow? We don't need more wingers. Especially at the price you would pay to get him.

That's the thing though, I don't know the price, only that he might be available, and that he's a good young player. As far as wingers go I agree tthat he Flames have too many top 9 wingers as is, so they would likely need to move a couple of them, and this move doesn't make sense in a vacuum.

Also, I find it fun reading and talking about trades, and trade proposals even if they're unlikely, it makes the off-season go by faster.

I think it makes total sense to want to aquire a winger of Peterka’s caliber, even when you’re a team with a lot of depth on the wing- simply because said winger is an upgrade on most of the wingers on our team.

In a world of finite assets, the Flames aren't really positioned to be adding more wingers. Especially if it's a higher end offensive asset like Peterka. You don't just go and add to your deepest position when you have an alarmingly low depth base at other more important positions.

Sure we would have to move a winger to make room, and true we need centers more than anything, but if you have a chance to upgrade your team with a player as good as Peterka, then do it.

We aren’t talking about a lateral move, it’s an upgrade.

I know he’s primarily a winger, but can’t he also play C?

If the player is an upgrade on what you have and the price is right, why wouldn’t we look at it? If we are able to trade from a position of depth to better the team, have to at least look at it. Fits the demographic that we want (24 and under, and under team control)

If the upgrade at C isn’t available but an upgrade at W is (and doesn’t cost too much), we have to at least explore it. Cost to acquire Paterka is likely to be too high.

One player I wonder about is Lafreniere. Mixed signals that he’s available. If he is, talk is that NYR might take a lesser deal to get out of the contract commitment. Maybe a change of scenery candidate. Again, all depends on the cost. But apart from the position need, fits the age group and cost controlled for 7 years. When you see Bennett pop in Florida, would like to bring in a player here that could realize their potential, again, if the price is right.

There's already a case to move some wingers before making a trade for say Peterka.
We've got a lot of bloat, and I think there's a few pieces we could trade to help us for the future.

Love Coleman but he'd be worth something half decent and Dallas is looking to shake up their roster. Easy trade partner IMO.

Was a fan of Pospisil, regressed this year but a big body and can find the net here and there and play up and down the lineup. Easy trade bait as there's teams interested. This is a guy who could be packaged with Rasmus to make it even better.

Sharky, very off season last year and will likely rebound (I'd hope) but another guy who can play up and down your lineup and take some draws here and there. Another guy you could move if there's a deal out there that makes sense.

Wingers I'm keeping:

Huberdeau (Obvious reasons)
Coronato
Zary (C/LW)
Farabee (due for a bounce back)
Lomberg
Klapka

Centers likely staying put:
Kadri
Backlund
Frost

Obviously wont move all 3 guys, but if you can flip say Coleman into Bourque you get younger and another winger.

Could flip Rasmus/Pospisil into Peterka, gives you another younger winger with high potential.

I feel between the capspace and bloat of forwards on the Flames roster (technically) there's a LOT of options Craig and the team have going into the draft and UFA period. I really, REALLY hope we take advantage of this. We could really set ourselves up for better days ahead if we play our cards right.

I don't remember ever watching Peterka play C. Not in Germany, the AHL, national team, or in BUF.

Still think a guy like McTavish from ducks is a guy Craig should go hard at.

The hysteria that came over the Ducks is gone. Coach Q will love him.

"We're all out of McTavish, can I interest you in a Zegras?"

Teams like the Knights and Stars that laid down for the Oilers should be looking for someone like Coleman. He is the exact type of player that will pull his teammates along in not backing down from anybody.
