Makes little sense for that team to attach assets to move out 3M.
Pagnotta is terrible lol

Kind of going off the rumor that Royle put out there what about this deal?
To Buffalo: Andersson, Mews, Pospisil, 18, Sharangovich/Farabee
To Calgary: Byram, 9, Peterka
This would be with Buffalo agreeing to the 8 year ask from Anderson and Dahlin convincing him to come. Buffalo takes one of Calgary’s mid 20’s wingers making $5M+ and gets a good prospect, cheap NHLer, and a mid 1st.
Calgary gets in the top 10 and gets 2 RFA’s they are willing to sign for 7-8 year deals at their asking price.
Is it just way off? Bad for the Sabres? Bad for the Flames? Do both 1st need to be in the deal? Take out Sharky/Farabee? Add Zary?

They only have 16 players signed, but one of those is Hogberg (an extra goalie) so 15. So after they sign Dobson (who will cost, what, half their cap room) they still need to sign more, such as Romanov and DeAngelo (or their replacements). Dobson, Romanov, and DeAngelo could easily take that entire 20 million as a set, and they still wouldn't have a full roster.

I would add Zary if the contract talks aren't going well. I could see Zary going to Buffalo and Zary liking the move as he would get more opportunity with guys like Peterka out.

That’s too slanted for the Flames unless they really like Pospisil imo. Sharangovich and Farabee have no value after the seasons they just had and might be negative. Andersson and Byram are a wash value wise so don’t see the incentive for the Sabres.

Here’s a **5‑year full rebuild + contention roadmap** (2025–2030), integrating roster development, targeted trades, and draft pick strategy to bring the Flames a Stanley Cup:
---
## 🛠️ Years 1–2 (2025–27): Builder Phase
### 👍 Rely on current prospects:
* **D Zayne Parekh** – projected NHL top‑4 puck mover ([showsport.cl][1], [en.wikipedia.org][2])
* **D Hunter Brzustewicz**, **Henry Mews**, **Etienne Morin** – high-upside two-way defenders ([thewincolumn.ca][3])
* **F Matvei Gridin**, **Andrew Basha**, **Jacob Battaglia**, **Aydar Suniev**, **Luke Misa** – forward depth brigade ([thewincolumn.ca][3])
### 🎙️ Draft Picks in 2025 & 2026:
* **2025 Draft Strategy** (own pick goes to Montreal unless top‑10):
* Priority #1: **elite centre** (team need per Times of India) ([reddit.com][4], [en.wikipedia.org][5]).
* Priority #2: Top-tier **LW** (e.g. Michal Svrcek or Bill Zonnon) to increase scoring depth ([timesofindia.indiatimes.com][6]).
* **2026 Draft**: Projected to hold own + NJ Devils pick (no top-10 protection). Again: centre first, forward depth second.
* Also use later-round selections to add quality depth – especially for wing and D.
---
## 🔁 Trade Targets (Years 2–4: 2027–29)
### 1. **Top-tier RHD – e.g., Zach Werenski** (Columbus)
* **Send**: Rasmus Andersson (extension talks in limbo) ([yardbarker.com][7], [en.wikipedia.org][8]) + mid-round pick
* **Receive**: Werenski – instant improvement on top pair
### 2. **Dynamic Offensive Forward – e.g., Trevor Zegras**
* **Send**: high-upside prospect (Morgan Frost or 1st‑round pick)
* **Receive**: Zegras – elite playmaker to drive top‑6
### 3. **Impact Two-Way Centre or Power Forward**
* Options: **Brady Tkachuk** (Ottawa), **Elias Lindholm-type**
* **Send**: depth defense/prospect + draft capital
* **Receive**: high-character forward to anchor a scoring line
---
## 📊 Projected Roster by 2028–29
### Forwards (Top 9):
* **Zegras – Elite C – Gridin/Basha/Suniev**
* **Returning vets**: Huberdeau, Kadri, Backlund for leadership
* **New addition**: Tkachuk-type or actual Tkachuk
### Defence:
* **PP1**: Werenski – Parekh
* **PP2**: Brzustewicz – Mews
* **Bottom Pair**: Morin – veteran complimentary d‑man (via FA)
### Goaltending:
* **Starter**: Dustin Wolf
* **Backup**: Veteran proven FA
---
## 🏆 Core Contention Timeline
| Year | Focus | Key Additions |
| ------- | ----------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------- |
| 2025–26 | Develop prospects, add elite centreforward | 2025 draft picks |
| 2026–27 | Continue prospect rise, target 1st impact trade | Werenski trade |
| 2027–28 | Push for elite forward acquisition | Zegras / Tkachuk |
| 2028–29 | Cup window opens with core set | Completed roster and goaltending |
| 2029–30 | Sustain window; use depth prospects | Free agent adjustments |
---
## ✅ Why this works in 5 years
* **Drafting emphasis** on centre + scoring wing builds future lines
* **High-impact trades** fill top-pair defense and scoring voids
* **Prospect pipeline** matures into NHL-ready core
* **Cap management** balanced: trades free space, prospects are cheap
* **Leadership & culture**: veterans and character players establish identity

I feel like Buffalo is giving up the 3 best pieces out of the deal. Before all the Andersson apologists come attacking me, a) Andersson is a UFA in 2026 and b) doubtful he extends in Buffalo. If he signs a big deal in Buffalo, it’s likely in 2026 when he can get a lot of money from them. Pure speculation on my part but I think he’d want to compete for at least a season.

Fair. In my hypothetical the only reason Andersson is waiving for Buffalo is because they meet his 8 year ask and I made something up about Dahlin being able to sell him.
If the offer was Andersson, Mews, Pospisil, Zary, 18 for Byram, Peterka, 9th?
That looks closer to me value wise but I don’t think I want to make that deal unless they can get Brady Martin at 9. Otherwise I prefer to move Andersson in a separate deal, and keep the rest of the assets.

Engvall is 3.0 for 5 more years.
Pageau is 5.0 for 1 more year.
If the Flames weaponize cap space they can probably do this but the return has to be good.
