I doubt the target for the #9 pick is a player they likely cannot extend but could trade at the deadline for a late first round pick.
The 9oa could get them a young cost controlled player. That's what teams want.

Byron Bader's (Hockey Prospecting) model was also pretty high on Reschny and Kindel(mostly played wing). Both of them have a good chance of being available at 18.

How big of a skill gap are we looking at between the Martins and Reschnys of the world in your opinion?

We're not talking about sending someone to Utah or Winnipeg here. Or edmonton.
I get the appetite not to trade him, but he's the only high value young forwards that, imo, gets us even close to 2oa convo. Gave, don't agree with you about much but I think you're absolutely dead wrong about Misa.

Buffalo is the armpit of NY state. going from Long Island (where Coronato is from) to Buffalo is a big change. It's like saying you're from Vancouver so you shouldn't have an issue moving to Fort St. John or Dawson Creek.

You are not going to get Misa without trading something of great value. I just don't see it.
We aren't trading Parekh or Wolf. We just signed Coronato, and I don't know how valuable he would be anyways. Does Coronato and our two 1sts even get us Misa? Probably not.

I would give Martin the edge in skating, shot, finishing ability, physicality, and compete.
I would give Reschny the advantage in passing vision, hockey sense, playmaking, offensive awareness.
Both are tied when it comes to puckhandling, and defensive awareness.

McQueen won't get past Montreal with their 2 picks. They will take the chance on him.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Hagens, but I would easily give up our two first-rounders, plus any prospect in the system, not named Parekh.

Bader's spreadsheet is always a little whacky. I appreciate it but I suspect if you did a long term analysis on his lists it would be petty meh.

It’s hard to figure this out because it just happens so rarely.
I could easily see it taking at least something like:
To SJ:
Andersson (extension negotiated)
Bahl
Zary
Pospisil
2025 1st Round Pick (18th)
2025 1st Round Pick (32nd)
2025 2nd Round Pick (54th)
To CGY:
2025 1st Round Pick (2nd Overall)
That gives SJ: #2 defenceman long-term, 2nd pairing defenceman long-term, top-six forward long-term, top-nine forward long-term, and significant draft capital. The idea being the Flames have to overwhelm the Sharks with quantity to make them even entertain it.
There’s not a lot of comparable trades in modern NHL history when it comes to teams trading away top-5 picks.
To PHI: 4th Overall (Pitkanen)
To TBL: Fedotenko + two 2nd round picks
Weak draft year, apparently this was known at the time. Also, Jay Feaster.
To NYI: Yashin (contract dispute)
To OTT: 2nd Overall (Spezza), Muckalt, Chara
…wtf NYI.
To NYI: 5th overall (Torres), 4th round pick, 7th round pick
To TBL: Weekes, Kudroc, 2nd round pick
Kinda shows the further you go back, the more you run into the fact that scouting/drafting in the NHL was not a solid practice…and also, Jay Feaster.
There’s also the Burke/Sedin trade…but again, you’re going back some time.
Quantity for quality rarely happens. It’d make a lot more sense to see SJ directly just go deal with someone like Dallas and work a trade around Jason Robertson where SJ gets the quality they’d be looking for but with the Fast-Forward button pressed so they can expedite their competitiveness.

^ remove Bahl and #32 and I still think it gets done. Ras is worth more than people are accounting for, especially if he's already discussed an extension

Rasmus situation is still very much 50/50.
His team met with Craig this week to talk future, both in Calgary and letting him explore UFA/trade.
I've been told that the talks didn't lead to anything extension wise, but he's looking for 8.25M per or so.
So I was told more like 25/75 on him being moved.

I don’t think so. You’re talking about a 2nd overall pick in the modern NHL. I’m not even sure SJ takes what I put forward because quality for quantity just doesn’t happen very often (and when it does, it usually doesn’t work out for the team getting the quantity**)

Thanks for the update Royle.
I really hope they do not extend Andersson, but it wouldn’t shock me. I think that contract (8.25 for 8) will age worse than the Lindholm deal.

Doesn't San Jose have a reasonable sized stable of their own lesser type prospects? Even with 4 NHL players and picks, I'm still not sure they go for that. That's 4 players who all need new contracts after this year, plus they have up and coming elite talent that's going to need extensions on the horizon. I don't think they would go for it.
Basically it's going to be all but impossible for the Flams to get up that high.

Yep.
Especially with a guy like Ekblad rumoured to be going to free agency. SJ can just go blow money on that removing their need for Andersson, and make their own selection

Wasn't it 98% last week that Ras would be traded and now its 75%?
So Flames are pressing hard to re-sign him?
I want him traded at the draft
Would love #2 but I think #30 and #33 + ??? is more realistic
