All cars can drive themselves, if you're brave enough.

a little while ago a buddy of mine was going shopping for a new car. he arranged for a test drive with the salesman and the sales guy wanted to show off the self driving feature.
they engaged it and it was fine.... until it wasn't. for no reason at all the car suddenly veered into the oncoming traffic lane (thankfully there was no oncoming traffic). my buddy grabbed the wheel and almost put his foot thru the floor he was on the brakes so hard. he got the car stopped on the (wrong) side of the road, shut the car off, looked at the salesman, handed him the keys and said, "i don't think i'll be buying this kind of car".
**i know someone will ask but sorry - i don't recall what model or car company it was

Not sure on the model, but I suspect it had brown seats.

troutman FSD version 13.2.9 which I have now is light years ahead of when we drove together before. Having a AI chauffeur drive the vehicle itself is amazing. Anyone who has an opinion about self driving cars that has not experienced the newest software in person needs to do so.

Any comment on the data I shared and thoughts on if that's nearly enough miles between CE to trust?
No one is saying it isn't mostly great, it's the times it's not that are the issue.

I have never seen that FSD tracker website and don’t know anyone who would use it. Relying on self-reporting of disengagements that can be subjective is not an ideal way to determine effectiveness. I disengage in non-critical ways all the time. Maybe I have arrived at my destination and want to park somewhere or I just want to swoop to the curb and pick someone up and go, or I would prefer to change lanes approaching an exit sooner than FSD might.
Regardless, I read all of these comments with people lobbing their opinions about how inferior FSD is when I suspect they have never experienced it first hand or they experienced it on much older versions of software that are nowhere near where things are currently. I’d go so far to offer to take anyone out for a rip for no other reason than to give them a real life experience of the currently available software. It’s truly amazing, and if it wasn’t then Tesla would not be putting driverless cars out on the roads in Austin like they are right now. Autonomous ride share is going to transform transportation as we know it, and it is happening right before our very eyes in real time.

Oh you think? You have much more faith in Tesla's morality than I do.
Do you get a commision for converting non-believers?

A Tesla with FSD engaged is far safer than some random car being driven by some average driver.

Yes, who cares about stats and data, that's a nonsense thing to form an opinion from. Anecdotes rule. There's a reason I wasn't basing my opinion around non-critical disengagements, as you say. And if it was good enough today, why did they delay the launch "10 days" to make sure it is safe? Not for app booking reasons or other easily solvable problems, but the .9999's that are the hardest to reach. You can take Musk at his word, but, well..
As for the transformation, first, Waymo is already doing it and has for years, so Tesla isn't some magical company that does what no one else can. Arguably they are now late to the party. Second, what's going to be so different? You will still order a car through your phone, never have to talk to the driver, and get out seamlessly. Not having a human in the seat isn't transformational.
And if you are talking about people "sharing" their Teslas as Musk has been promising for 6 years, well...

That's going to be about as much ride sharing as Uber turned out to be. Very few will share out their own personal car, for all the obvious reasons everyone can imagine. Sure, people will hustle the system and buy a few Teslas in an attempt to make money before they realize they break even and Tesla takes all the real profits for themselves.
I'm not against self driving vehicles, I am against how Tesla has tried to do it, and I understand the reality of the challenges, such that every time he says "coming in two weeks" it's pretty obvious it is not. One day I'll eventually be wrong, but I have a perfect track record so far thanks to Elon.
And even if it's driving you everywhere, it will forever be a Swasticar that funded the destruction of America. Very popular in Russia.

A car with only automatic emergency braking is probably safer than FSD.
Did zamler come back as brupal or something? I have never seen such devotion in a droid before.

End of the day? I'd prefer to drive myself rather than trust the AI car.
If people cant handle driving themselves? Take a Cab or a Bus.

You say that now, but in 5 years when you are 80 you'll be wishing you had the independence of an auto-automobile over a cab or bus.

Ooh! An age-joke! Despite the fact that we both know you're older than me.
And secondly...where is the fun in that? Some of my favourite memories have been almost dying in a cab.

That wasn't a crash, that was the cab driver telling you he "doesn't give a F about Star Trek"
